//Buckingham Palace has become embroiled in a row over whether the Queen was consulted over the naming of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s daughter.//

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/jun/09/harry-and-meghan-push-back-at-claim-queen-not-consulted-on-lilibet-name

Reading through this report it appears that Harry told the queen of their intention to name their daughter Lilibet, but contrary to their claim they didn’t actually seek her permission.

Goodness knows where all this controversy with those two will end, but the plot thickens.

Inside scoop - here's how it went (unless anyone has evidence to the contrary?):

> Hi Grandma
>> Hello, Harry
...
> We've decided to call the new baby Lilibet
>> Really? That's ... lovely
...

Or not ...
I was surprised they were cross with the BBC: who were after all only reporting what I suspect some mischief maker at the palace had said
Naomi, my personal issue is that as no-one knows what conversation took place, why is this even a topic of conversation?

If Harry told his Grandma of his intentions to name his daughter after her, and it seems to be an accepted fact that he did, do you think he would've gone ahead with it if she disapproved? I certainly don't think for a second that they would've. No matter what your opinion of the Sussexes, Harry seems to be incredibly fond of HRH, and I suspect that affection is reciprocated.
We'll never know... but I'm sure the Queen will continue to handle the family with dignity and doesn't need us gossiping about plots!

Mozz, it’s a topic of conversation because, unsurprisingly, when the Duke of Sussex threatens to sue to BBC, its news. All the palace needs to do to put this to bed is to issue a statement saying the queen is delighted with their choice of name. As yet it hasn’t.

*sue the BBC*
Of all the issues in this world today, this dysfunctional family continue to make headlines ( and money )about a child’s name ( which incidentally sounds like a weed in a lily pond ) AB at its best :-)
I get that Naomi, but as I said, do you really believe that Harry would've gone ahead with the name had HRH had anything other than a positive reaction to the idea? I know you have a pretty low opinion of the Sussexes, but they're better than that.

Mozz //do you really believe that Harry would've gone ahead with the name had HRH had anything other than a positive reaction to the idea? //

Yes, I do. I think it’s their way of telling the royals that they can do exactly as they please - and I don’t think the queen was ‘consulted’. I think she was ‘told’. I can't help thinking if she had been consulted and had agreed with the choice of name the palace would have taken immediate steps to nip this latest fiasco in the bud.

//I know you have a pretty low opinion of the Sussexes, but they're better than that.//

Are they? Can’t say I’ve noticed, Mozz. I thought they were a great couple in the beginning but given all the lies and hypocrisy since then I can’t imagine how anyone has retained a good opinion of them. I think they're shameful. The queen doesn't deserve all the waves they're making. They're selfish to the core - both of them.
naomi, I haven't read all the posts but I just want to say I agree with you 100%.
I don't know if you saw an interview with Prince Edward yesterday, but he was being asked some questions which he answered politely until the question came up about the baby being called Lilibet and he did not answer that question at all, he completely evaded it.
To those who are saying would H&M have used this name without the Queens blessing, I would say to those people, did you think they would ever give the interview that they gave? Do you think Harry would ever complain about the way he was brought up, all on national television?
I believe these two are capable of anything, and until an official statement comes from the Queen, we will never know whether she gave her blessing or not.
What was the interview on, Barsel?
Think the interview was because it would have been Prince Philips birthday. Edward came over well I thought, not pompous like Charles
Zacs, both P.Edward and P.Anne gave interviews and probably as puzzle has said because it would have been P.Philips 100th birthday.
It was obvious that the interviewer was hoping to get a scoop, as there was no need to bring up the subject of H&M, but P.Edward answered the questions very politely and was obviously not going to be drawn into those sort of questions about H&M.
I meant what channel.
Sorry Zacs :-) it was just on the news. It wasn't a full interview, just a snippet. I think it was Chris Ship who was interviewing Princess Anne and he had more sense than to ask her that sort of question. He stuck to asking questions about her father.
The Royal family is becoming more and more like a soap opera each day - he said she said, the dirty uncle. Once the Queen sadly goes I predict Charles gives it a half-hearted go until realising nobody cares and the whole thing will be wound up within 20 years tops.
mamya, that wasn't the interview that was shown on the news, it was a woman who was interviewing him. Looking at this interview, it shows, I think, that P.Edward is quite an easy person to interview, he comes across as very friendly.
Yes, he's very pleasant in interview.
