Shockingly at least nine people have died before receiving any compensation, worse the level of compensation offered is derisory.

The woman in this story was denied being able to work or receive welfare for almost 10 years while living legally in the UK.

Ask yourself how much compensation you’d want for being treated so appallingly – personally the monetary compensation I’d look to receive (for such treatment) would be the best part of £1,000,000. Yet she was offered £20,000, around £2,000 per year of not being able to work or receive benefits (absolutely disgusting).

Hymie. There was a BBC drama-doc last year about a geezer in similar circumstances. Not sure whether he was EVER offered compensation. Anthony Bryan is his name.

My pal Cecil (West Indian, couldn’t have been blacker), used to say after the latest slur, usually from the Harlesden police, “Just as well I ain’t black else I’d REALLY be in trouble.”

If the UK government believes that £2,000 is appropriate compensation for not being able to work or receive benefits for a year – I suggest we start a crowd-fund to lay off Boris Johnson for a year. I might even stump-up the complete amount myself.
It is disgusting as I know someone who has been affected by this. Still no payment ......
£20,000,Hymie.I wish the government would throw twenty grand in my direction.I would be biting their hands off.Ive worked all my days, paid my taxes and all,but the government has never offered to give me 20,000 pounds.Looks like this lady is just one of many to get the brush-off.

OK, but for that 20 grand you cannot work or receive benefits for 10 years – you probably would not qualify for any NHS medical treatment – are you gonna take that offer, and just how do you propose to live on 2 grand a year for 10 years?
The treatment that some of these people have been on the receiving end of has been abysmal.
All our politicians should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves for not resolving this with thought and care.
Hymie. Take no notice of yannafmmyi. One of the new thinly disguised phalanx, and never worth reading or cosidering.
I think a fair way of doing it would depend on how much a person may have received in benefits over the 10 years, then add on some for interest. An arbitrary figure such as £1m is just that - arbitrary.
They talk in the article about people being made homeless but make it less clear if that relates to the woman in the article. they talk about people seeing their GP regarding suicide, but again less clear about who (or how they even got to see their GP if they had no recourse to public funds).
They make it even less clear in the article how people who could not work or claim benefits survived for 10 years - what a muddle it all seems to be.
Hymie, take no notice of Alan(er)London, one of of the new phalanxes?.Probably never been near London in his/her life.
I am amazed at the strength and resilience some have shown during this time (those who made it through) - I'm not sure how I would have coped.

It is interesting that ynnafymmi believes it possible to live on less than £6 per day in our capital city (London), paying rent/food/heating/transport etc.
^That's right. Duh, you think there might be something you're not being told about?
The 50 scam artists that have been uncovered, so far, didn't seem to have too much trouble getting their hands on Grenfell cash, did they?
Why do you keep adding "(er)" to ALLEN's name?
@10.26.Why not?..are you and him/her joined at the hip or summat?..or are you the same person?...are you actually Scottish,or someone trying to cash in the good Scottish name.Dont bother stalking me hun.
Spice, if Glenda Ceasar has been identified as trying to scam a payment from the Windrush fund then she shouldn't have been offered anything.

That's not the case though.
^Sorry. I haven't got a clue what you're talking about.
The lady in the link the OP gave regarding the amounts offered.
But Mamy, how much is the lady in the link wanting?A million pounds, how about two hundred million? Why not go the whole hog and demand a thousand million.Twenty thousand to me sounds a bit too excessive, especially when there are probably a lot more deserving cases.
You really would have to ask her, I don't expect she thinks she deserves anything like that to replace what she could have earned over 10 years - the issue has been poorly handled.
