This is completely insane.

Those of us who are experienced GCE Examiners know full well that teachers' estimated grades are inflated. This year in Scotland they have effectively been handed a "Cheat's Charter". Where Scotland goes today I fear England will follow suit on Thursday.

Agreed again, diddlydo.
However I think an explanation should be given as to how they decided which students to apply the 'downgrading' to as part of the standardisation. I expect they used a system based on teacher rankings but I haven't seen an explanation- if so the pupils who are unhappy should raise the issue with the school.

Grades have always been estimated/adjusted for some students- usually where the student was either absent through illness or was unwell when sitting. I assume the same or a similar algorithm was used there.
