Margaret, I suppose if it was the combined deaths of Covid19 and the regular flu, then that figure would be very attainable.
I notice that none of the medical/scientific experts now appear with Boris since Cummings has found out that they've got minds of their own and can't be forced to follow the party line. The best of them, Johnathan van Tamm, was locked in a cupboard long ago when he dared to criticise the Cummings jaunt to Barnard Castle.
I'm afraid that Boris's main failing is in not getting rid of Cummings.
For a variety of reasons, I don't think this plague has even started in earnest.
Winter will be bitter.
I think the regular flu figures would be down, as older people would be being much more careful, so I still don't think there would be anything like 100 000 deaths.
14.27, Danny, at last you have finally worked it out. Well done.

Gulliver seems to know a helluva lot about the politics of the UK doesn't he?
He does ,considering that he is an alien, doesn't he.
Gulliver,
Prime Ministers always have a pet adviser. Wilson had Lady Faulkiner, Thatcher had Bernard Ingham, and Blair had Mandelson.
It is easy to blame Cummings for all of the Governments’ Coronavirus mistakes, but it is the Prime Minister who made the wrong calls, not Cummings. (His mistake was getting caught and lying and being a hypocrite).

Danny I'm pleased when I see him, I am forming a character for the book I'm writing :0)
It may just be me, but the head of the BMA looks faintly unhinged.
I think a "winter wave" will happen or not happen due to circumstances largely beyond our control. The thing is to be prepared for it.
This caper is getting ridiculous. From the BBC's report on the PM's announcements:

//Under the new guidelines, people may use public transport for journeys immediately,..//

People have been allowed to use public transport of any type for any journey (provided the journey was made in accordance with the rest of the Coronavirus regulations). Since 13th June the only restriction on movement was that you must not stay overnight away from home (though you have been allowed to since 4th July). No "essential journeys only" restriction has ever been placed on any public transport whatsoever within England.

It's little wonder the public are confused.
I don't know what's going on, but I'm not confused. I know that I don't know what's going on.

Boris doesn't know that he doesn't know what's going on. He is confused!
well. it may be all over by Christmas, though I recall the claiom has been made before.

Ellipsis, have you someone non mind who could do better?
There's much criticism of Boris's handling of both Brexit and Covid but very little indication of who could have done better?
Since winning a landslide victory in the GE, he's had to contend with something of massive proportion, now tell me, who could have done better than him, the alternative would have by now enlisted the help of Hamas
Bobbi, I'm very disappointed with all UK politicians and politics. If you want to know who could have done better, try this:

Germany has had 9,000 deaths
The UK has had 45,000 deaths.

It wrong to argue that Boris has got it right. Labour didn’t win the General Election, the Conservatives did, so arguing Corbyn would have been worse utterly pointless.
Question Author
Gromit , I certainly do not think Boris has got it right, he hasn't but then no PM in modern times has been faced with what he has
Lots of leaders in modern times are faced with what Boris is facing. They are the leaders of other countries in the world.

You need to compare Boris against leaders of other countries that are facing the same crisis in order to figure out whether he's doing a good job or not. And he isn't.
Question Author
Okay, so who would you like to see doing a better job? Curious, that's all
