Royfromaus - “I Used To Defend The Police”
So did I.
Literally.
I was one.
I simply don't recognise the police any more. And I don't necessarily mean the rank and file. I mean the people at the top, giving the orders. Cops (at least below Inspector level) do as they're told. No if or buts. Their orders may stick in their craw but they do them anyway.
But what I simply cannot fathom is the abject subjugation that many senior police officers display towards overtly aggressive protagonists. It just smacks of cowardice.

Birdie - I have had sight of an operation order with an instruction emanating from the (undefined) very top that Police were to do nothing that might inflame the situation even if it would ordinarily be in order to do so.
Many of the troops had to just put up with being assaulted without retaliation that weekend a fortnight ago.

The day I kneel before a baying mob of fascist, marxist, antidemocratic thugs, will be day that Satan skates to work.

I don't doubt it.
Senior cops are infamous for their abject cowardice in the face of danger. Particularly these days. It used to be that in order to rise through the ranks, you had to start at the bottom as a Constable. Not any more. Now, with the right qualifications and connections, you can start well above that grade – inspector and above – without any actual policing experience whatsoever.
What could possibly go wrong?
