The police can stop anyone driving a car and ask for their documents and proof of who they are, they can also question a person sat behind the wheel of a car at the kerbside.

If they were to watch the cop programmes on the TV they will hear them talk about having a 'coppers nose'. They will stop anyone of any colour if they think they look suspicious.Probably most people who get stopped by the police are made to feel like criminals, but they are doing their job.

I don't think anyone is taking issue with the stop per se - it's the way the stop was handled that is the issue.

I am sure the couple in question are satisfied with the constabulary apology they have received - to which in my view they were absolutely entitled.

I have no idea if it is 'settled' or not, I am merely offering my view of the situation.

andy I've only watched the videos from the link but it seems to me the police were calm about it and the woman was doing all the shouting. The police have for whatever reason seen fit to ask them for ID and she has kicked off. I was waiting for the 'is it because I is black' and it wouldn't surprise me if that was said off camera.

As I have said, suggesting that the lady was 'jumping on a band waggon' is inflammatory and entirely inappropriate and clearly inflamed an already difficult situation.

In these situations, you minimise aggression by talking one-to-one, not having a stereo row, when no-one is listening to anyone else.

Either way, it matters not what any of us think - the officers' superiors judged that the officers had handled the situation badly, and offered their apologies.
