B&Q have been open for ages for Gardening stuff, as have Morrisons and Asda among others.

B&Q seems to be managing as do Asda and Morrisons. Perhaps the garden centres will take guidance from them.

I can imagine the queues! Drip feeding it, like a handful of MacDonalds, and one in five recycling centres, just creates queues and crowds. The police were called to deal with the traffic congestion locally when B&Q reopened. Right opposite Tesco , it caused major gridlock. Thankfully I have ordered anything I needed for the garden online now, and refuse to join these ridiculous queues.

Happy to be allowed to go for a walk somewhere other than my immediate village, and even to be able to have a coffee or a picnic at the beach, but I dont plan on going shopping for a long time yet.

I was keen for the garden centres to reopen and imagined buying all sorts.
Reality has hit me though. I think the queues will be awful and everyone probably wanting bedding plants, perennials etc.
I’m going to make do for this year.

Yes jakep it will probably be like all the supermarkets, queues, queues and more queues and for me, a visit to the garden centre always meant a coffee and something nice to eat in the café, but I see they are not opening yet. I'll be leaving it for now, but it's a start I guess.

About time too. They should never have been closed in the first place. Safe distance is easier applied at garden centres than at supermarkets. But hey, what do I know?

Plus I know it's another thread but 2 metres was a completely random distance with no real scientific basis on that being the safe limit - but we've all sucked it in.

At the moment when only a few shops are open like the supermarkets and B & Q, there has been quite orderly queuing outside. It will be interesting when more and more shops open, each with their own queue and limited space available. Not only will people have to maintain six feet front and rear but side to side as well. I hope the garden centres don't operate the one out, one in policy, a friend of mine, a renowned plantaholic will happily spend four or five hours browsing, get stuck behind a few like her and you might as well take a flask, deck chair and something to read. :o)

DD I agree with Prudie, she is spot on. I hope those that can go out do so, enjoy themselves and have a wonderful long and happy life.
The Thud was because I am very worried about the risks so I can't join in. I suppose seeing it in print hit home, although I already knew.
