Timing was absolutely right. If he'd had done an afternoon announcement there would have been a mad rush to any and every shop by the terminally stupid. Instead, he waits til everywhere is closed and then says "you cant open tomorrow". This is NOT lockdown. This is clampdown. Lockdown is yet to come - but again depends on whether the people who think that it...

None of this is policeable, so will be widely ignored.
Banning people from seeing their friends is not justifiable.
The long term impact on peoples’ health of not exercising, of being alone for long periods, of enforced isolation and no infrastructure in place to safeguard the vulnerable in society, many end up seeing off as many people as the virus. It will certainly make far more people more miserable and unhappy.
Many riots are caused by boredom, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see some if this stretches into the summer.
The army will be needed when police numbers fall. Civil unrest is highly likely.
It's been a rapid pivot from "we can contain this without imposing too many measures" to "stay in your homes". Rapid and scary. This has probably come too late, but it certainly couldn't have come too soon.
omg im gonna poo meself.

Note to self - must get bog roll!
2 China planes landed at LHR at 4pm today from Beijing & Shanghai with more circling to land. Why not stop them flying in?
Nailit - I would think that your work at the food bank would count as help for vulnerable people and therefore permitted.
Can we still go in our gardens? My husband wants to finish off some gardening he started a couple of days ago...
Yes, that's fine.
You could argue that gardening was your once a day exercise
It is at time like This that I am glad that I am born, bred and living in the UK. We have a Prime Minister in charge whose default position tends towards liberty rather than authoritarianism. Still the creepy critics carp.( see above) I am sure that there are leaders of other Countries who relish every prospect of imposing tighter control on their populace. Count yourselves lucky that you don't live there. Be ready to face down the gainsayers who would encourage you to embrace such totalitarian solutions. They are not part of the solution.....as ever they are part of the problem.
Yes Patsy. No problem with that. And is good to get fresh air.
Perhaps Boris will reintroduce ration books......that would give Jim lad something to "think" about. Unless he has lost the ability to do so after hours on his Playstation in his mam's attic.
What in blazes are you on about now, Togo?

This might work if there were 100,000 extra police to enforce it, but there ain’t.

for several years, the Police have not been perusing real crimes like burglaries and violent attacks because of lack of numbers, so there is no way they could cope with the extra workload Boris is trying to heap on them.

When the edict is unreasonable, and the manpower does not exist to enforce it, then the only possible end result is failure.
And anyway, I wouldn't waste my time on a Playstation. Xbox has all the best stuff.
Do you think the lights will go out and water stop flowing?
At the moment, its going to make very little difference to our life. Retired, in the country with a garden with fieldsand woods behind where OH can walk without seeing anybody and only a few neighbours We only shop once a week and being somewhat disabled I am used to not getting out and about. I shalll miss our visits to the coast and pub lunches with friends My excercise will have be be walking round the garden with my wheelie. I am feeling so sorry for young families who must be so worried about all this old people who live alone and will feel so vulnerable.
Nae chance of water stopping flowing up here, I think our next evolutionary thing will be gills
I'm going for a game of golf tomorrow. It's my daily exercise.
