Does he really think that banning flights from the Schengen area is going to limit Covid cases in the USA? Has no-one told him that Covid is no respecter of boundaries? Of course he wouldn't want to include flights from the UK in the ban as that would upset his mate Boris. I despair of his intelligence.

apparently we are a stop off on the route to USA...
does that mean that those from the EU won't be allowed into America.
It's not that he is naive, if he darts his team tell him he is a genius, if he sneezed it becomes policy... If no one says you are wrong then even your wildest ramblings must be right....

Emmie - the point is that he has only banned people on flights from the Schengen area entering the USA. That leaves the rest of Europe and the UK with an abundance of flights to the USA. Nobody seems to have told Trump that Covid doesn't have a passport and doesn't need a visa to enter his country.
//has it not occurred to him that people from that area could simply fly to the UK and then hop on a plane to the USA? //

I've no doubt that has occurred to him and to his advisors, diddly. This isn't something he would have decided without consultation. As I said earlier, this is about damage limitation - a bit you like bumping elbows with people rather than shaking hands. I doubt that will be wholly effective either. Far from it.
Bumping bums would be more fun :-)

Naomi - nothing to do with his owning golf courses in the UK and Ireland then, or being a big mate of the PM?
Doubt it diddly. As far as I'm aware, this applies only to the Schengen area so the EU's policy on open borders would appear to be the US's concern.
Just to put things into further context: Infection is now being brought to Europe from the USA with passengers having been there (from Denver, Colorado yesterday).

As I'm sure I've said before, the open borders i.e. the Schengen area bit is irrelevant when it comes to the transmission of Covid.
Why? The more people travel - which they can do freely within Europe - the greater the likelihood of spreading the virus surely? That's why Italy (a member of Schengen) is on lock-down.
Trump must be doing something right, after all there have been no rubber dighys full of asylum seekers landing on his shores.
DD: "I don't notice for the very simple reason I haven't read a PP post for years - I can't be arsed to decipher them. " - ditto, I hardly ever read them I just skip over them.
Oh come on folks.
PP is pretty damned clever.
PP clever? how do you work that out? He writes like a an 8 year old.
He's a good googler.
I've listened to only 2/3 speeches made by Trump in the last month or so, and its embarrassing to watch, I can only conclude he as the same illness as Ronald Reagan had, and even he made better sense, and that's really pushing the boat out.
Ah that's his secret.
Well I like him.
Italy isnt on lock down. Have a look on flight radar website. There are planes landing and taking off from a lot of Italian airports.
Question Author
I can travel very easily indeed from the UK to France or Spain so the argument about open borders is irrelevant. Further to someone's comment about Reagan - he had good advisors and actually listened to them. That's the difference between him and Trump - the latter just lives in his own selfish little bubble with his own nutty ideas.
Thanks, Zacs. I didn't know that.
