Although naomi and I differ fundamentally (no pun intended) on our views about Islam, I am very much in agreement with her views on this one.

As I have said before several times on differing threads, I believe Islamic extremism speaks to the psyche of the terrorist, rather than to his belief system.

The twisted need to inflict pain and death based on a misplaced sense of religious and moral superiority is an issue of mental illness rather than religious ideology - and should be regarded, and treated as such, including protection for the public.

I don't know for certain but I feel very sure that before these people can be released someone must sign a piece of paper to authorise it. Suppose this person was held responsible for any crimes committed by the person released on licence would quite so many (if any) be released, I wonder.

I believe that the perception shift should be from anger and punishment, the current view, to managing mental illness for the good of society, which is what it should be.

Is it worth the risk? There are normal people in the world that wouldn't dare leaving the house with a knife let alone leaving the house to commit a terrorist act. How warped must these people be? Extremely. I say strap em to a rocket or blow them up in a airport style baggage situation.

Emmie, They can’t be given the benefit of the doubt because their mindset is such that their whole lives are given over to their cause. The bloke who ran amok last week gave the impression that he’d mended his ways because lying to further Islam is permissible and that’s what they do … but he hadn’t - and we are now in no doubt of that.

I cannot speak from a position of any expertise, but I can't help but wonder how the need to maim and kill innocent people can be the actions of anyone who is sane.

The very need to carry imagined religious doctrine into such extreme and fatal actions separates the believer from the psychopath.

Yes it would be quite devilish but so is terrorism. Terrorism has no morals or remorse. It's a selfish act that should face serious punishment. Capital punishment.

TD we don't have the death penalty, and haven't for many years, so one could say these days give them life in prison no parole instead.
