sp1814, exactly.. we all eat out and expect, good service, i actually like wetherspoons, cheap and cheerful is what it is, but i will not tolerate indolence, crass service.
fender you can sit in the pub and order and apy using the app on your phone, just giving a table number, you don't have to approach staff at all.
I don't think everyone has read the link...
Nor do I, there's a lot of crossed wires here.
*pay
Looks like SP1814 has got his Brit hating pro-Corbyn wires crossed again, Mamy.
so someone else sent the banana, how nice of them..arrogant
but you could say, the offended person had a free one, my browser was playing up, iv read it correctly now, just says there are racists out there.
Serve something to someone who knows they didn't order it, has food allergies, yet tucks in anyway. Customer's decision. Staff probably should be trained to respond better but most will be expecting a basic waitering job and not know what to do when some unusual complaint turns up. In this incident someone got given a banana. One can understand it wasn't seen as a big issue, but in retrospect the staff/management should make an effort. The bill was settled from account somewhere. Most likely someone knew he was at that table.
Seems like there is an element of racism here from whoever used the app. Some ignorant tool!

I've never used a food ordering app before so not sure how it works and no idea that its an anonymous service. So can the user definitely not be tracked then?
I don't know if the staff can but I'd suspect the bank could. Been a while since I used a Wetherspoon's app but IIRC you tell them the pub and table number you claim to be at, order goods, pay by card through the app.
Someone sent him a banana - and he reported it to the police? Come on! It’s not as though the police don’t have enough to do. If the intention was to cause hurt and upset, think how miffed the sender would be if the recipient laughed. Well, that didn’t work did it! This man has given his ‘benefactor’ exactly what he wanted. Silly billy.
Of course he's not playing the race card, it was clearly meant to be racist. The halfwit with the app needs to have a word with him/herself, they're an embarrassment.
It's clearly a deliberately racist insult, but calling the police was pointless, as the perpetrator was never going to be identified.

It seems like a stupid system that allows anyone to order anything and send it to any table to be honest.
Sending the banana - we don't know if it was a genuine joke or they had some malicious intent. If he didn't know who sent it he can't be certain of the reason.

But the reaction by Wetherspoons seems to have been a bit pathetic. There wasn't a lot that they could do but they could at the very least have taken the guy's complaint seriously.

I live in a city with 95%+ white Europeans so I have to admit that I have no experience when it comes to racism but am surprised that the larger cities haven't managed to balance their multiculturism a bit.

How can the transaction be anonymous? It was paid for using an app so there must be an identifiable payment account linked to the transaction.
It was racial abuse. No ifs or buts, it was racial abuse.
We ALL originate from monkeys! 30p for a banana - better to slip on skin & sue for damages
I'm not sure what he means by saying Wetherspoons "didn't take it seriously"?
What did he expect them to do, and what did they actually do? It just seems they didn't see an issue, but tbf, I wouldn't refused to serve something ordered, just because the person was black, either.
SP, what are your own views?
I think that is a clear case of racism from the spoons customer. SP are you still angry because we accused Mr Am of playing the race card the other day? So you had to find some real racism?
It was definitely not funny but racist.
He should have got the staff to identify who ordered it and then stuffed the banana into their gob.
"Now who's laughing eh mate?"
