Ahh it all makes sense now! The sadism of the met. Vile. I can not believe the off duty cop isn't facing retribution. Reasonable force? Pffft. What kind of example does this set! Absolutely vile.

As has been said the guy was already restrained If this copper is willing to head butt the guy in full glare of the public ; when any threat was already neutralised ;i wonder what he is prepared to do to other people , when there is no one around in a non life threatening situation . Whatever you think of the guy is irrelevant in the circumstances I certainly wouldn't...

Spath, let's be honest. This was never a debate; it was, and is a thunderous cacophony of conflicting opinions full of sound and fury, and signifying nothing but an input of money into the AB's penny-jar.

I would certainly agree with your assessment - but these contentious issues always pan out like this on here - two sides take up differing positions, and, barring the occasional snide personal trolling, try and convince each other of the rightness of their view.

Personally I do enjoy these debates, obviously, I partake in them regularly, and so do many others, and it does keep us, well, most of us, out of mischief.
sanmac - // A full moon is approaching, folks, and the resident AH is waxing gibbonous tonight at 91.9%. //

What's your measuring device? Just curious …

BTW, did you mean 'gibbous'? That's something entirely different, but it does refer to a celestial body.
Spath - you do know what a phobia is, don't you?
ummmm - // Or just drunk! //

Unlikely - the last time I imbibed any amount of alcohol was at Reading Festival in1975!

Since then, a sniff of the barman's apron and I try to take my trousers off over my head!!!
Yes, of course it's gibbous when referring to the moon; however, I was referring to your numerous posts when I mentioned gibbonous.

Thanks for clarifying, and I can't really argue about the 'gibbonous' label either - still wondering about that percentage though - ?
Oh my word, oh my days :0) you really do get yourself in a state. I do hope you feel a lot better in the morning. I was just wondering weather you will retire tonight thinking what you may have achieved today?? or will you be ranting all night :0) I've never in my life had such a good laugh. ;0)

Yes, but the word homophobic doesn’t literally mean a phobia of homosexuals. You also don’t need to be homophobic to make a homophobic joke.

I do love a teacake i can’t lie and i’ve nothing against one
An idiot on a train posed a major risk by threatening to stab people. That threat was neutralised in a swift manner. Cop or not, off duty or in civilian clothing, he derves at the very least a Chief Constable's Commendation.

Splat is the type of poster who believes that the London Bridge Attackers should have been apprehended and reasoned with.

The family of PC Keith Palmer would like a word with you Splat.....by the throat I would imagine!

I don't think anyone would argue with the office joining in the restraint of a disturbed individual in a potentially threatening situation, but as I and several others have said, headbutting someone is not restraint, it's assault, and that is where my issue begins and ends.
headbutting someone is not restraint, it's assault, and that is where my issue begins and ends.
----------------------
My issue ends with someone who has never been in any kind of confrontational/threatening situation, thus cannot discern between restraint and neutralise in terms of a real threat.
I'm sure those passengers who were fearful of quite possibly being stabbed were grateful that such a threat was nullified in a swift and direct manner.

Here endeth the lesson.
Praise be.

Obviously some 'experts' on here attended different ' Officer Safety Courses' than I attended.Sitting behind their keyboards they are so small minded to contemplate the risks that were going through the officer's mind and the fatal consequences that may have arisen for him. All the training that helps officers to eliminate a potential fatal contact with a suspect went out the window in this incidence.
Absolutely none of the advice could of been put into practice by the officer so he improvised as best he could for his safety and others. As much as you train it doesn't always go according to plan. In the Officer Safety Training Course it is assumed that you work in pairs at all times when dealing with suspects and both of you will be equipped with certain equipment to restrain.Baton, handcuffs, spit masks,. Andy Hughes will no doubt tell us what else this officer did to place himself at a great disadvantage whilst dealing with a deranged violent suspect. If he can't I will gladly acquaint him with what this officer would not be happy with and the position he was forced into due to the circumstances.

This might of been going through the officer's mind when he was up front and out of his safety zone with a deranged foreign suspect.

TB and HIV are the latest weapons against the unsuspecting officer.
Best to get in quick and first if you are off duty and not equipped with rubber gloves and a spit mask.
Of course Andy Hughes has attended these courses and knows better than anyone else. It's dangerous work sitting in a BT office overseeing a load of little girls ain't it ?

The arrest of the felon at the Mall in Manchester was a copybook arrest by GMP. Two officers. One in the stand off position. Out of striking distance with Taser covering his oppo.Suspect on the ground whilst properly restrained with handcuffs etc.
The officer was face to face with the idiot in the train and was within baton striking distance. Not good as he didn't have his baton or handcuffs. He could of got a knee in the groin also.Nothing was in favour for that officer so he improvised. Andy Hughes and Peace Lily have never been in that position I'll wager.
Before Andy Hughes reminds me what I have forgotten. When confronting and talking to a suspect you never stand face to face, but stand at an angle to prevent a kick in the nuts. Due to the crowded train this was not feasible.
The only good suspect is a seriously assaulted suspect?

This was no rsole backpack wearing terrorist but a cowed weekend hero, already defeated and headed for the cells.

Absolutely no need for the forces of law and order to go all Harry Callahan on his subdued ass.
Disregarding retrocop's usual diatribe in my direction (your man crush is showing again retro!) -

In spite of all his spluttering and inside knowledge, the facts are clearly there to be seen -

this individual was already restrained and unable to do anything except wait to be arrested, the officer came and stood in front of him for several seconds, adding nothing to the restraint, and then headbutted him which was a) unnecessary) and b) assault by any measure of the term.

None of retrocop's pointless bluster and typical macho insults detract from the simple fact, the officer assaulted someone, he should be punished for that as the office that it is.
retrocop - // It's dangerous work sitting in a BT office overseeing a load of little girls ain't it ? //

I have no idea, I worked in an office with grown women, and I didn't supervise any of them.

Please try and stick to the facts when you are being pointlessly rude to me, there's a good boy.

Aye, because ur imagination seems like a violent place that condones headbutting people and throttling.
