Ok he's breaking the law, he get's arrested, tried, impeached, lost, found, appealed, re tried, boiled in oil, 24 lashes of the cat and keel hauled. All in a fortnight? while the HOQ is wetting their collective knickers we are out no deal by virtue of the clock running down. Or did I mis read the situation?

Can he just ring in sick for a few weeks?

Former judge Lord Sumption (I think) said that if PM Johnson refused or was unable to send the request to the EU then a court could authorise a civil servant to do it.
I'm wondering if a court could give such an order in anticipation of his refusal?

If it could, that would allow more time for any appeals.

really? I thought the legislation was quite clear, the PM has to ask via a letter with supplied wording.
It seems peoplle haven't been keeping up with this Brexit thing.

Almost everybody knows that both sides are winging it, there's nothing written in stone and even if there was they'd just call a mason to recarve the offending article.

Nobody of consequence wants the damned Brexit therefore it will be blocked, stalled, dismissed, forgotten or lost down the back of the sofa.

All that's happening currently is that Boris has been given enough rope to hang himself by long time enemies who are a lot better at this stuff than he could ever imagine being.

He's done.

right oh douglas! I have saved your answer for usage after Halloween.
I still like the idea that Johnson could call a vote of no confidence in himself to get an election that would be very funny.

The latest wheeze is Johnson sends the letter asking for an extension, but attaches a post-it note say “We don’t really want anymore time - see ya”.
Pip pip!
>Nobody of consequence wants the damned Brexit . You are right- the 52% who voted for Brexit are all nobodies of consequence it seems
Word on the street is that the combined efforts of Cameron and Johnson at big thinking have caused Eton to revise fees downward for the forseeable.
It has been suggested that Boris may go to court to test the legality of ordering him to apply for an extension. If he times that right no decision will be made until after 31st October.

whatever works danny!

I expect you need to ask in law rather than news ;-)

I don't think any of this is clear until it's tried and a precedent set. I'd have thought that if the government wanted to contest the legitimacy of the bill/act/whatever time would have to be allocated to do so.

I doubt that a note saying it's not really wanted would have much affect. Outlining ways in which MEPs could distupt EU activity for the whole of any extension might. Assuming that's possible.
An extension to what purpose? To ask for another in January .. and then another .... and then another .... forever?
Well, yes, Naomi. Until a final solution is reached keeping things as they are.
Exactly, douglas. Fair means or foul? Expect foul.

Naomi, yes I think that is their holding pattern until they can find a way to thwart the will of the people permanently. ....and some object to me calling them collaborators!

So there can be an election? The opposition wanted to avoid a no-deal Brexit on October 31 and the possibility that an election would be called for, say, October 15, which PM Johnson could then say, "let's have it in November instead".
dr //which PM Johnson could then say, "let's have it in November instead".//
Why on earth would he do that ?

My understanding is that the opposition (and some of the government) are worried about a no-deal Brexit on October 31. There isn't a great deal of trust around at the moment, and the opposition believes that PM Johnson will find a way of ignoring the wishes of parliament to achieve his "do or die" promise.
