Khafi Kareem ,a Met police officer asked for leave to go to Nigeria ( to take part in their version of Big Brither ) her request was turned down but she went anyway, whilst there she had sex with another housemate live on TV
My opinion, Yes she should be sacked,if you ask your employer for time off and you take it anyway , isn't that gross misconduct ?

Yes, I do, actually. My parents were *both* Police Officers and when you join you accept that being a Police Officer is pretty much a 24/7/365 occupation.

Her code of conduct isn't even up for dispute it's her Professional Standards.

"She speaks French, Italian and her native Yoruba and worked as both a translator and spotter for a female genital mutilation team on the look out for possible victims at airports."

Nah fire her. She did a naughty under the covers on TV how heinous.
I didn't realise sex was such a wicked crime.

Obviously, police officers don't have sex and if they do, they should be fired.
I've let myself down, allowing myself to rise to the bait laid by somebody eating Cheerios in their pants on a Wednesday morning.

Police officers and professionals do have sex, only not on TV
Sex act, camera, film crew, pay check, = porn
Professional standards are not the same thine as professional qualifications.
You honestly think this woman's skills, dedication and hard work in the force and at airports regarding FGM victims should be wiped, and never used again, due to this mild act?

Thank you for that link Danny
I am interested in the fact that the Met seem to think they can dictate what people do in their private lives that is not illegal. The report is rather confused in that its not clear whether she was refused extended leave to do the show or whether she was refused permission to do the show.
Most large organisations/companies have the policy of staff having to get permission to appear in any kind of public domain as they are seen as a representative of the company. If permission was refused but she went on the show anyway, then yes she should be sacked. That happened to someone at my company many years ago - turned up on a TV show when he was off sick and was sacked. She probably knows she's likely to be sacked anyway and doesn't really care because she's hoping some other career will come out of her appearing on the show.
You don't want to know what I honestly think.

woofy //I am interested in the fact that the Met seem to think they can dictate what people do in their private lives that is not illegal.//
They are not dictating anything, just asking that they behave in a manner that does not reflect badly on the police service.

"The Met said Ms Kareem had been granted unpaid leave ahead of appearing on the show, but her request to take part in the programme was denied."

She was granted leave but not granted to go on the show. She used the leave and did it anyway.
Try harder, Teacake!!

Yes i think that is the case.

She wants to start a TV show with her as host.

She wants to bring about social change.
don't know what George Dixon would make of it all
Professional Standards is a dodgy one....she may have been described as a police officer on the show, but that doesn't mean a breach of professional standards. We went through this at work (NHS) as part of our management training. By and large, professional standards are only an issue when the person is actually at work, representing themselves as being at work, or doing something illegal. The illustration of this is if a community professional is pulled for speeding during their working hours, its a professional standards issue. If they are pulled for speeding before or after work ie on their own time then its not a professional standards issue although if they incur a ban and therefore are unable to do their job, then that may be addressed under the T and C of their employment. Its important for management to understand this as trying to discipline someone for the wrong reason just gets you egg on the visage.
// The Met confirmed that Khafi was granted unpaid leave for an ‘unrelated reason’ and that her request to take part in the programme was denied.

A spokesman said: ‘A PC, attached to the Met’s transformation command, requested permission to take part in a reality television entertainment show in Nigeria. Permission was not given. ‘The Met is aware that the officer has since appeared on the show without authority.
//

It's quite clear. She asked permission to take part in the show. They said no. She took part in it anyway. I'd say that's a sackable offence.

What she got up to when she was on it is irrelevant.
danny, she did nothing illegal. I am not sure victims would care and damn sure that criminals wouldn't.
