Was he convicted for making false accusations, traducing the great and the good?
His lies damaged reputations. I think lies, however hurtful, wouldn't be as damaging as actual abuse.
I'd guess few convicted abusers would get 18 year sentences.

If we could go back to when these horrible false accusations allegedly took place, there were many on this site who were quick to condemn with vigour these same innocent people in high places.
