Often, he is.....

Although as (the real) 'Tommy Robinson' was a long-time and unabashed football hooligan perhaps it would have been closer to the mark if I'd used that particular name for him...
Yes, Tommy Robinson can be his own worst enemy. The arrest for "public disorder" by a paddy wagon with seven cops, summary imprisonment within an hour on the changed charge of contempt of court, deliberately contrived and unjust as it was, could have been easily avoided if TR had stayed away or asked someone else to film the defendants entering court to receive the verdict.

But I repeat, take the scales of justice. On one side load the scale with Robinson's thuggery, mortgage fraud and travelling on a false passport. Got all that, Yaxley-Lennon haters? Now load the scale on the other side with a single instance of the crime Robinson was reporting. That single instance is the rape of a twelve year old girl.

Which sin weighs the heavier, Yaxley-Lennon haters?
Gold star for your studies in history.
^That to jackthehat.
It shouldn't be a scale of who is a bigger criminal. Knowing there are worse crimes, does not excuse others.
His name is Tommy Robinson. People can call themselves whatever they like.
It passes for humour in Leftyland, Naomi.
Believe it or not.
Crikey! What a confusing thread! // my queen of repartee
well stopping posting then !

and calling Tommy Robinson by a name he doesn’t use and is not usually known by these days, defies reason.

no, sweet confused one - the reason is that it USED to be his name. Read Kripke Naming and Necessity, and er unconfuse yourself, quick !

but ---- you have a point - no no really or yes - you do !
Bradley Murdoch who chopped up Peter Falconio in Oz - pointed to a video of himself - and said - that's not me!
( meaning that it wasnt Bradley Murdoch as there appears on this thread to be some er confusion about pronouns and prepositions ! ( hell but this is AB ! )
It was one reason why the jury convicted apparently
Yet, as we all say on AB - aussies are an upside down lot !
and as Nigh so clearly argues - he should have been acquitted as it wasnt er him

and Queen Marie Antoinette - in the record of le proces de Marie Antoinette (*) - er sozza nigh - C18 French - but what the hell the point supports you so I bring it er up anyway - was always addressed as La Veuve Capet ( zad eez The Widow Capet ). [ as 3T might quip - where de carpet den? ]
so there she was as La Veuve Capet an she shoudda said,
I am not she - I am the queen of France !
( in French of course)
and under the point you submitted,
it would have been less confusing ( for us learning history later oo la la !) and clearer and clearly would lead to acquittal !

it is a mad ( and confusing world ) in which we live my masters

Good point Nigh - more please !

Absolutely no doubt which sin weighs the heavier.

It doesn't mean that he's not a prize pillock and aggressive with it....
PP, have you tried Superglue?
//It doesn't mean that he's not a prize pillock and aggressive with it....//

TR will always remain a highly divisive character. He undoubtedly has a certain following who see him as a heroic warrior and are full of admiration for his stance on Islamic issues among other things.

However, the majority of people have not fallen for his rabble rousing ways.

Who exactly is he? Is he the man who wears the snappy respectable suits or is he the camouflage jacket wearing football lout?

In fact,he is both.A chameleon who presents himself in an articulate manner but who manages to cross the line continually as if he considers himself above the law.

His popularity is accurately measured by his poor showing in the European elections.

Why was this? He can blame the removal of his funding, social media and victimisation as much as he wants but respect has to be earned and he is clearly delusional if he considers himself in the office of high esteem.

I fail to see what he can achieve or enhance his status as he continually shoots himself in the foot.

He may talk sense at times but this is undermined by his antics.

\\Former EDL leader said he was attending the game with his wife//

Why is he always described as former EDL ? Martin McGuiness and Gerry Adams weren't described as former IRA in every news article.

One of the few posts worth reading.

I have said before - maybe to you, I can't remember - that good deeds are not a credit balance whereby you are given a pass on being a nasty violent thug, or a fraudster, or any of the other crimes 'Tommy' has committed.

If it was, Jimmy Savile would still be a lauded saint of charity to this day!

Spicerack - // If you were on a night out with your wife, Jack, and some thug repeatedly got in your face giving you verbal abuse, what would you do.
nothing?
call the police?
lash out?
Everyone I know, in my admittedly working class unrefined circle, would do the latter. (and be applauded for it) //

You make this sound as though assaulting a stranger who is, 'quote' 'in your face … ' is the expected and indeed applauded action of any man of 'working class'.

I am at least as 'working class' as you, and I have never had anyone 'in my face' in my entire life - maybe because I don't put myself in those situations.

If I was in the situation where someone was 'in my face', my reaction would be to remove my face from the situation, rather than hitting someone.

The idea that being with your wife, and being confronted gives you carte blanche to punch someone, is the thinking that allows 'Tommy Robinson' to go around hitting people - his followers think it's fine and dandy.

I think that's an appalling attitude.
Good Best Answer.
naomi - // Good Best Answer. //

I have to agree - it's a more balanced and dispassionate analysis of 'Tommy Robinson' than most of us - myself included - could manage.
Thanks JTH for BA and for the kind comments from Talbot,Naomi and Andy.
Well deserved, ag. Balanced - but no change there. ;o)
I try not to sit on the fence but look for the merits and demerits Naomi.

TR is a very charismatic but highly flawed individual. It's not hard to see why many folk admire him.In fact, someone on here even thought he was quite dishy!

If one looks long enough though the cracks are plainly visible to see...
/// Yes, Tommy Robinson can be his own worst enemy. The arrest for "public disorder" ... summary imprisonment on the changed charge of contempt of court, deliberately contrived and unjust as it was,//

hold on - he smacked someone in the gob innit ?

have I got it wrong again
or has an AB deep thinker got his preposition transposed with his pronouns again ?

Bring back Latin into schools
that s what I say
and I am sure many many Abers will agree with me
