Should There Be A Limit.

Here's the storyline, this chap don't work, and is on disability allowance, and gets whatever else, to enable him to live. But with that disability allowance, ( AND I KNOW THEY ARE ALLOWED TO DO THIS) go's and buys/ lease a big BMW car, at a cost of who knows, but its not going to be cheap, or to maintain.

After a period of time the car is taken back ( missed payments) My question is why would anyone who is disabled, don't work, need such an expensive car just to enable them to get from A to B, a bog standard car, at half the price of a B M W or less, would do the same job.

So should there be a limit to how much of that DA can be spent on car transport, to ensure they have funds to support themselves, other than that the dealerships are being funded by me and you, as its very clear this chap don't know how to how to make the most of his income.

Teacake, the DA is limited.If he is driving a BMW then he must have paid extra to obtain it.

No one needs an expensive car disabled or not.

The DA is limited, they can get a car with it or add some themselves to get a better one.

It's the mobility component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Personal Independence Payment (PIP) that is being used to fund the cost of the car. It goes to the Motability scheme instead of the claimant.

If the claimants wants to have a higher spec car, the claimants need to pay extra.

I did wonder who would be the first to get upset :) If he added funds of his own? it still originated from government funds.

A claimant getting DLA or PIP may be working mind, so they may have additional income to fund the car.

Have you ever been so disabled that there is only certain cars you can climb in and out of ? - I have and had to try quite a few before I found one that suited.

With respect rockrose, he walks with no problems, he works in his garden a lot of the time, and he is only about 11 stone, so no problems at all.

Just because you see him working occassionaly in the garden does not mean that he does not have problems.
But as you have been told there is a limit.

No not a doctor, but I can tell if someone is of average fitness. Maybe the limit should be lowered.
