Why do you think that?
No.
AOG....we have debated this issue before concerning Jacinda Arden and we have had many replies and the opinion seems to be that it is reasonable and acceptable.

I, of course disagreed, as did many others and intimated that it was OTT and not becoming of a Prime minister to act in this way.

However......this is the world that we now live in.
LOL....ooops.....sorry I thought it was the P.M.
My comments however remain the same.
Yes, it is going too far - as was the Prime Minister's effort.
It demonstrates one thing though - and it's something I've been saying for a very long time..... that the hijab, like the burka etc., is a uniform - a symbol of Islam.
why?

No it's not.
Showing respect to someone or a community, can only be a positive statement .
It's not a show of 'togetherness' though is it? It demonstrates a compassionate response but nothing meaningful in the longer term.

What is wrong with mere words to maximize impact?

Why utilise fabric which will be cast aside the moment the cameras stop rolling?

Symbolism I would suggest.

That is fine just as long as the gesture is returned ie certain religions dressing in western attire as a show of respect for the Western victims of terrorist. attacks.
ag //Why utilise fabric which will be cast aside the moment the cameras stop rolling? //
You know this how? Rather a cynical remark.
//Symbolism I would suggest. //

Of course it is. It can't be anything else.
NO
what's wrong with symbolism, agc? It seems to symbolise a genuine feeling, not a faked one. For those who want something longer-term and meaningful, changing gun laws within a week seems to fit the bill.
danny, are you seriously suggesting that these women will adopt this style permanently?
Danny,I can't see the NZ PM or the 24yo female officer willing to keep wearing it can you?
Naomi - your post wasn't there when I was typing!

Jno - it gives a false impression to me.
Does anybody who supports this gesture know why Muslim women are required to cover their heads?

And why the NZ clowness has got it wrong by leaving some of her hair exposed?

In your answer please include references to misogyny and the patriarchy.
I am not suggesting that anyone wear the Hijab permanently but to suggest it was only worn while being in front of the camera is a cynical remark and not within the knowledge of the poster.
a false impression of something, agc, or an impression of something that is itself false?
