Reports of a 21" long rat killed in Bournemouth makes me wonder if there's a new mutant strain scurrying around our bins.
If we come across such a monster should we run or slowly inch away?

Get a Parson's Terrier, master rat killers.
yes get a ratter, they would soon have it on the run
where is this report by the way> have you a link..
i hate rodents, had an infestation of mice at home and that was more than enough.
That dog has ratter written all over it, but a good old Jack Russell will do. I had rats in the garden of my last home, they did a good job tidying up the fallen bird seed. They nested under the shed until a vixen moved in.
woe betide any rat or rabbit that crosses the path of the dog in my avatar

Oooo ... that brings back memories! Age 8, the first proper poem I ever learnt by heart. The Pied Piper of Hamelin by Robert Browning. Loved it!
For most people it was that or the owl and the pussycat.

A bit of a coincidence there. Both owls and pussycats would make a fair fist of dealing with rats.
Oh, yes! The Owl and the Pussycat too!
I loved poetry when I was young used to spend days speaking in rhyme for the fun of it. Still love it and write now and again, mostly stuff for special events and funny stuff for children.
Hamelin town's in Brunswick
By fair Hanover city
The river Weser, deep and wide
Washes its walls on the southern side
And here begins my ditty...
She's got 3 and I don't think she does spoil them at all.

I was quite spoilt but in a nice way. We were taught to appreciate everything and don't expect anything. Never disappointed then.

That's what's missing with some (not all)
Wrong thread...sorry :-)
3 rats, ummmm?
And in the death, as the last few corpses lay rotting on the slimy thoroughfare.
Shutters lifted inches in Temperance Building high on Poacher's Hill
And red mutant eyes gaze down on Hunger City
No more big wheels
Fleas the size of rats, sucked on rats the size of cats
And ten thousand peoploids split into small tribes,
Coveting the highest of the sterile skyscrapers
Like packs of dogs assaulting the glass fronts of Love Me Avenue
Ripping and re-wrapping, mink and shiny silver fox
Now leg-warmers
Family badge of sapphire and cracked emerald
Any day now
The year of the Diamond Dogs

In the very cold weather in the early eighties ( -20'C in Brum) the rats came out of the sewers ( too cold - the water didnt freeze as it was moving) and started gnawing at babies

ugh - - no sympathy for rats ....
Biggest ever rat! That’s not the biggest rat in Bournemouth, believe me. Anyway back to the so called news story, they always stretch the poor things out as far as they possibly can or use interesting camera angles to try to make the unfortunate beast look as big as possible to be sensationalist. Must have been a slow news day here and we were getting bored of the drugs busts, nightclub troubles and road works stories.
