The Police are guilty of a huge cluster-**** (my asterisks) with the Charlene Downes case. The (allegedly) guilty men have been tried and the trial fell to pieces because of inept (and bordering on Criminal) Police behaviour; evidence is no longer admissible, etc. I have great sympathy with Karen Downes and agree that there does seem to be a...

I honestly dont understand the rationale behind the substantial sums pumped into one case. Especially given the circumstances of negligence involved.

Being generous to Plod, perhaps there is a bigger picture here we dont know about?

Well if it's the public's money maybe it's in the public's interest to inform us of a line of enquiry
A lot of public money is spent on things the public do not, and should not, know.

Say for instance they are breaking a major EU wide paedo ring or worse then alerting the perpetrators to the aim would be foolhardy since it would send them to ground.

I dont know that is what is happening but trying to be generous to plod.
Spath, i thought the same when i heard they were spending more money on this case.
There must be some rationale in spending more money on this very tragic case. I think police were hoping for some new information on the very sad case of Charlene Downes in light of the new attitudes towards grooming - please delete this post if you feel it is necessary

The (allegedly) guilty men have been tried and the trial fell to pieces because of inept (and bordering on Criminal) Police behaviour; evidence is no longer admissible, etc.

I have great sympathy with Karen Downes and agree that there does seem to be a disproportionate amount of money being spent on other cases, elsewhere.
It's quite straightforward - middle-class people don't care what happens to working-class people, and the Professions are full of middle-class people.
The media takes a sympathetic view of middle-class parents who fail to look after their children when they are socialising with friends late at night - you get very different headlines when working-class parents do the same.
The contributors to this site are mostly middle-class and they don't care much for working class people either.
The authorities pay much more attention to causes when people make a fuss about them, unfortunately when working-class people make a fuss they're racists, bigots, fascists etc etc.
That's not true professor.

The McCanns kept Madeline in the media. They haven't given up. I know it's easier to do when you have quite a generous income but that isn't their fault. They studied for years to earn their money so that shouldn't be held against them.
No excuse for the authorities to pander to the squeaky wheels though.
I hope his thread does not become an excuse to bait the McCanns any further - they have lost their daughter and no amount of cockeyed theory can change that. I think the police will have justify why they are continuing to investigate this case. As for Charlene Downes - we have to be very careful what we say about this but I truly hope her parents receive the justice they deserve
Maybe not.

If my child was abducted I don't think I would have the strength of character to keep on campaigning. I'm sure there's a lot of people like me who get so wrapped up in their grief that even getting dressed in the morning is a challenge.

What about the late night socialising ummm?
And 'studying for years' shouldn't make them more entitled to justice.
What about? It's too late. They're paying the ultimate price for being so complacent.

I brought up money because I'm sure as a surgeon and a GP they had savings. There are many people who live from pay day to pay day who couldn't possibly afford the campaign the McCanns launched. I just think they shouldn't be judged because of their professions.
I am not judging them bacause of their professions - I'm judging a system that gives them preferential treatment on account of their professions.
I agree it's not their fault that they have money but I still don't see that as a reason that their child abduction case is treated preferentially, and I can't believe that I'm the only person questioning why it is. I feel terribly sorry for them, but I'm all for advocating for Charlene Downes' Mum because she really has had no justice at all, and when she tried to ask why there is yet more money being ploughed into the McCann case, people are more concerned about how upset her remarks and remarks on here mighyt make them feel. Well stuff that frankly.

Maybe Karen should write a book?

(Shake my head..)
She has, according to the link you provided.

" and I can't believe that I'm the only person questioning why it is"

you're not, it's a brexit divide who wants to keep funding this and who wants it to be given up. They say the first 48 hours are most vital.. How longs it been? How many hours?
// Say for instance they are breaking a major EU wide paedo ring then alerting the perpetrators would be foolhardy.//

erm yeah but - - they know they are looking for Maddies abductor and likely murderer and um he has gone to ground - - so secrecy - so beloved by official dom and also YMF to hide past mistakes is not needed here

and yes a neighbour lost £10k in a burglary and his policeman cousing commented: 'I have no idea why they showed so little interest considering the some was so large' - better things to do I suppose

"Karen said: "If they are going to plough money into the search for Madeleine, then they should do the same for all the children who are missing. She didn't even go missing in this country - it's really a matter for the Portuguese police, and yet the money just keeps on rolling in for the search."

BOOM.
