Should the public purse be used to fund today’s £2,000,000-plus wedding of Princess Eugenie, who has no royal duties? I can’t see what qualifies her to have such a public televised wedding. She’s hardly a significant royal and over the years her parents haven’t exactly covered themselves in glory. Maybe she has Meghan envy

Apparently the £2m is for security alone and is funded by the police, ultimately the taxpayer – and no, we shouldn’t be footing the bill. https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/princess-eugenie-wedding-cost-taxpayer-a3959736.html According to the BBC “Buckingham Palace says the cost of supplying security "is a matter for the police"....

I think the whole wedding should have been contained within Windsor Castle and the cost of policing would have been quite a bit less and we, the tax payers, should pay for that policing. Who wants to see the couple do a tour of windsor.
//how about that Liverpool football song , Called , " You'll never work again " //

don't follow you there Gulliver. Princess Eugenie has never been in receipt of money from the privy purse, and today's marriage won't change that.
"Who wants to see the couple do a tour of windsor."

Tourists and the inhabitants of Windsor.

Thoroughly enjoyed the whole wedding....showed UK at it 's very traditional and Royal best. Exhibited the difference between class and "razamataz."
Can only concur with both of Sqad’s excellent posts.
The knock-on effects of such events for tourism and business are beneficial to many.
She looked lovely.
She did look lovely and I loved the autumn colours of the flowers and foliage around the chapel door. Don`t know why I didn`t go along for a look really as I`m off today. I`d rather see £2m being spent to keep people safe than see the spectacle of terrorists blowing people up or driving into crowds
It will change for Jack the Lad though, mushroom
Forgot to add, given the brides brave decision to choose a dress that revealed her scar I’m sure that scholiosis charities will benefit greatly.
I like Georgy-Porgy.
I thought it was lovely and, wish them well.

How much does it cost the taxpayer each, Week, to police every major football match? I don’t hear anybody complaining about that.
She did look lovely - and that tiara (borrowed from the Queen I believe) is fabulous - but I think the point is that a more understated wedding - her being a minor royal - would have been less of a burden on the public purse.
jj109 //Who said that the tax-payer paid for the wedding Auntlydia?//

ermmmmm...the OP for a start plus a few other posters I can't be bothered to cut and paste.
The Groom is millionaire businessman in his own right. I doubt he's married Eugenie for her money!
costs will probably paid by ITV for exclusive global coverage of the wedding.

So glad lemon lip cammy & family were absent
I could be wrong (probably am) but I thought the football clubs had to pay for the presence of the police at matches.
Deskdiary, they do.
Cancels out chrissas's point then.
Did look a lovely wedding from the pics I have seen - a more modest affair would still have attracted family guests, most of the top Royals.

I doubt that would have reduced the security bill, I don't mind my contribution.
