Cartoons are not meant to be flattering, the cartoonist takes the most prominent features of their subject and exaggerates them and has always done so.

How is the cartoon satirical?

The tennis super star is having a tantrum, so the umpire suggests to the opponent, that they let her win. I don’t get the point being made.
AOG,
Most people view AB on mobile phones and tablets which give the user the ability to ‘pinch to zoom’ to see the image much larger.
murray, did she get the white skin out of a bottle too?
You are finding racism where none exists, jno.
Only you will know why that is.

Serena Williams is actually far darker than the cartoon depicts.
btw way, jno...it wasn't MM, it was me that ruined your argument.
// The tennis super star is having a tantrum, so the umpire suggests to the opponent, that they let her win. I don’t get the point being made //

The point being made is that Williams is behaving like such a completely childish pain in the *** that it'd be less trouble for all concerned if the other player just let her win so they didn't have to put up with it any more.

McEnroe should have had many more titles if tantrums was such a problem

Certainly getting some 'black' looks from that Lady Official, that's for sure.

Apologies if any of you consider that a tiny bit racist.

340 questions on racism so far, AOG. Is the situation any clearer than when you started on AB?
Best you have got ZM?

This is not racist although I have to say I dont think it's the best cartoon I have seen either.

Just out of interest have any of the people in the cartoon objected to it or is it the usual PC I'm offended on behalf of others brigade?

Blimey is that all, that's not too bad, considering we live in a multi-racial country.

But I do not know where you get records from, but they are wrong, it happens to be 495 questions, 1,000 answers and 13 articles, just type RACISM into AB's search box.
Your personal 340 questions, AOG. I just thought that over the years and using the 1000's of answers you've received, you might have realised that racism is subjective. Every time you ask, you get different opinions. I just thought you might have learned from this, no?

By the way, I don't think the cartoon is racist. But then I'm white so there's a predilection for me to think that way, just like you.
I don't see the problem with the 'depiction' of Osaka. The drawing is clearly meant to represent a sort of every-woman tennis player, not Osaka herself. Many, many female players have long blonde hair in a ponytail, and that's all that the cartoonist was trying to show, I think.
Osaka is not drawn as a white person.
Look at the umpire, he is pink...if the cartoonist wanted Osaka to be white he would have used the same colours he used for the umpire.

"realised that racism is subjective."

How can that be. If it was there could be no law on it.
What is interesting is that if the PC liberal left didnt shout about it this rather poorly drawn 'cartoon' would not have had the coverage it has!
Then there's really no need to debate the situation is there. How would the law be applied in this instance, YMB?
The law has clearly been applied and acknowledged it is not racist. Otherwise there would have been some collars felt sharpish for such a horrendous crime.

And there is a need for debate because some see racism where there isnt any, oddly usually on behalf of someone else who doesnt see it.

I would suject the term racism has been twisted and contorted by misuse by the liberal left and used as a tool to shut down debate.

Just like you are trying to do.
