Well, in your post at 1808 it wasn't mentioned that they paid for it, and the baby gate is irrelevant. The point is that it's obvious that we have to adapt ourselves to these people and their customs to a much greater degree than they wish to adapt to ours.
When I was in Bangkok in January, I learned the Thai greeting and farewell of 'Sawahdee', followed by Ka - or Krab depending on the gender of the person I was addressing, including the slight bow and with my palms pressed together. It seemed to me to be normal to adopt the custom of the country and it certainly eased my stay and social interaction. As someone has said 'When in Rome, do as the Romans do', unless, of course, you wish to cause offence and disadvantage yourself.

Muslims regard the left hand as unclean (for reasons before explained) as I found out when at the end of the school year I once offered a bag of sweets around - all refused and I discovered it was I was holding the bag of wrapped sweets in my left hand.
^^^ 'because I was holding...' as I typed!
Talbot: Muslims don't shake hands with unrelated females lowly or not!

"For a man to shake hands with a non-mahram woman (one to whom he is not related) is haraam and is not permitted at all."

Ignorance is bliss.......
Orthodox jew men don't shake womens hands

More looneys with a strange problem then.
This ignorance is in accepting this nonsense.
Or would you rather women know their place?

Many Muslims will not shake a woman's hand full stop
All the man had to do was go through the formalities of an interview then tell the lady later that her application was unsuccessful. No need to give a reason.

AL, it's not a good idea to respond to a person with "ignorance is bliss": You might be accused of being an extremely happy person.

AuntLydia - // Khandro that is just not true! They use a shower head with running water and dry off and wash their hands as we would. I know because I adapted the bathroom for my Muslim tenants! //

Khando isn't going to let a little thing like a fact get in the way of his prejudices!

lol...I see some anecdotes are acceptable to mr hughes.

Sanmac Good grief! I put a baby gate at the top of the stairs for a young family was that wrong too?

Then you are a fool and if you don't know why then x that by 2 or 3
Have a lovely evening Talbot x
We were discussing the adaptation of the toilet. The baby-gate installation has absolutely nothing to do with that.

Wrong, the muslim owner of my Local indian restuarant shook hands with my wife everytime we went there.
AuntLydia, //She was going for a job as an Interpreter, they would have known she was likely Muslim and should have respected her beliefs.//

They did respect her beliefs. They didn’t want someone who wouldn’t shake hands so she didn’t get the job.

Actually, if she was that observant of her faith she wouldn’t be taking cheeky little selfies. This is bunkum.
lol Naomi where in the koran does it say one can't take selfies? She had her head covered ;-). The man was vile. No one should be frog marched out of an interview ( if that's true). A simple " sorry I don't think you are suitable for the position" would have sufficed. This is more about the prejudice of the man interviewing than the beliefs of the Muslim woman.
Much the same in France. French men and women will often kiss on meeting, though this has no religious connotations. When visiting friends in Paris I would greet the ladies with a kiss but never the men, preferring a handshake. No-one took the slightest offence.
Jackdaw is absolutely right. When I lived in France I learned to kiss everyone. Choir practices often started about 20 mins. late because greetings had to be exchanged. My next-door neighbour used to kiss me 4 times - he rather fancied me. It goes back to 'When in Rome...'.

This woman was in Sweden, so she does as they do, which is to shake hands.
Jourdain,
Kissing in France, my parent lived there for 23 years and always shook hands with the men and kissed the ladies, BUT, it always confused me with one on each cheek or two on each cheek, is it something to do with being a stranger and being relation/friend.?
nope. I hate social kissing and just don't permit it. My body my choice.
