Horrible, horrible story.
33 years in prison and then murdered on his release. But I won’t shed a tear.

// Taxpayers would gladly pay to keep the likes of him behind bars for life //

No I wouldn't, I would rather he had a long drop on a short rope!
A lethal injection would be my choice for him.
Innocent, guilty, doesn’t really matter to the “hang ‘em all” brigade. Guildford four? Birmingham six? String ‘em up, that’ll teach them.
There was more than the Guildford 4. The Guildford 4 and the Guildford 7.
"String ‘em up, that’ll teach them."

Stops the bleeding heart liberals letting scum like this ou though doesn't it.

The man should have been strung up 33 years ago, the cost of keeping him in prison would have been ridiculous. And now we have the cost of keeping the vigilantes.

The problem is we were promised life meant life when hanging was abolish, "Life" has been getting shorter and shorter so expect to see more of this. Hoeever right or wrong it is when the law fails people some will ensure justice is done.

bainbrig, you're not concentrating. Again I'll say, this man was not innocent.
It makes a difference who murdered him ...

- Vigilantes? I've no time for that.
- Family members of the murdered baby? Then I feel sorry that they've carried that burden with them for all that time, and now ruined their lives even further

... but, either way, it's not good for different reasons.

As for "Should we have the death penalty?", we know what the outcome would be if we had a referendum on it! Once again, I would probably be on the losing side to a bunch of intolerant motivated pensioners.
"bunch of intolerant motivated pensioners" - that is so rude and sweeping.
I've got to be fair I'm 20 ellipsis and I don't have a great deal of tolerance for baby murderers, nor mind you am I pro death penalty, but it does seem a broad and sweeping statement.
Which word do you take issue with?
Ellipsis, // As for "Should we have the death penalty?", we know what the outcome would be if we had a referendum on it!//

I don't.
'Intolerant' ellipsis. Perhaps it's just the way it's phrased, but it sightly suggests to me that you think people should be 'tolerant' of murderers and I don't think many people are pensioners or not.
He should have worn a burqua.
Personally I think the population would vote against reinstating capital punishment.

I would never vote to re-introduce state-sanction murder. A life is a life and one's life never anyone else's to take.

And I'm no liberal leftie...
Sadly you're not far wrong there, Theland.
Life should mean life, like, "Hookey," Abu Hamza, extradited to the USA and doing life with no parole.
Whatever he'd worn, going around telling all and sundry he'd been behind bars for 33 years would have raised interest locally.
Exactly mamya, the burqa comment has no place in this thread.
Grow up Theland :/
To be expected sadly, I think there's a competition on.
