Tearaway doesn't go far enough to describe such nasty behaviour. What sorts of attitudes at home are influencing these young people?

I can see there is an agenda here from TTT and the thrust of the thread will now shift - best left I think.
What really needs to be done is to converse and interact with these boys in an honest attempt to understand their psyches and draw out their hidden demons and fears. They must be made to understand that they are not alone in their misunderstanding of the complexities of modern society and it's utter failure to meet their expectations. We must treat them with compassion, understanding, and instill in them the desire and drive to blah, blah, bleeding blah.............
I do NOT condone it. I think it's horrific and I cannot fathom what goes through peoples heads to make them do such a disgusting thing.

My point was if these teens were smacked growing up it makes the 'bring back the birch' argument rather redundant.
sanmac....and then send them on safari at the tax payers expense eh?
Do you not understand sarcasm, TTT?
Tora appears to be a vigilante roll today.
Makes you wonder what he would actually do if confronted with such youths.
Nothing probably.
none of you know me.

I think it's time for some to step back from their keyboards, and realise that just because others are not blowing a gasket over incidents like this, it does not mean they do not condemn them.
Exactly Pasta, Ummm has shown her disdain for their actions - to say she is condoning it is unfair and entirely wrong.
ok I'll leave you to hand-wring.
TTT have you ever thought of sticking to the topic rather than lambasting everyone else?
Sqad and Danny....in a way you are correct. The children I worked with whose names I now see regularly in the local paper's crime section are those who were both punished and indulged.
The punishment usually came in the form of a clout or a beating from a parent.....sometimes drunk.....when the child annoyed them. It wasn't consistent nor was it a suitable punishment.
Those same children were often also indulged....(not sure if in the way you mean). They were neither taught nor expected to respect or obey adults either in school or their neighbourhood.....they were given into easily when they whined for the latest.....whatever the latest was....
They were indulged by having no rules to live by because that was easier for their parents.

And of course when a parent was brought into school we were told in no uncertain terms that he/she wasn't a naughty child...in fact a little angel who made a mistake.....got into the wrong group....was led astray....

My grandchildren are grown up and I'm now a step great-grandma....and I too feel for that generation.... :-(

It's harder to parent if you don't hit. It means you have to sit down and explain everything. You have to stick to your chosen punishments without giving in. It would be much easier just to give them a slap but, imo, counter productive.

Fear doesn't breed respect. Respect is learnt, earned and taught.

I vote for self help for a decent society. So yes, vigilante, a solution to keep the cowards in check.
Oh I don't know, Ummmm.....I smacked my son a couple of times and regret it still.
My daughter has never been smacked and both are doing fine so far....

I find physical punishment too hard to do and a bit of a failure really.....and anyway I'll have to stand on a chair if it comes to it now...x

I'm afraid "decent society" and "vigilante" don't work together.
It's regular slaps that's the problem.

I agree with you though. The naughty kids in school were the ones who got hidings.

So I reckon danny and Sqad are wrong.
LOL...LOL ^^^^
