Scottish Government to help refugee families:

A new £100,000 scheme has been launched by the Scottish Government to support people with living costs and essential items upon their arrival, removing the delay caused by UK benefit assessment rules.
Equalities Secretary Angela Constance said: “Too many people arriving in Scotland under family reunion arrangements are forced to start their new life in abject poverty because they cannot apply for support until they arrive here.
“When you consider that these people have been separated from their families, have fled their home – often under threats of violence and death – that is not acceptable.

“Scotland is a welcoming country and we want everyone who chooses it as their new home to be able to do so with a sense of safety, security and hope for their future here".

I thank God every day that I live in Scotland.

I was unaware of the subject issue of this post but good on the Scottish Government. However, reading all the above I am fascinated how one can "pigeon hole" almost everyone posting as to which part of the UK they come from based on the true-to-origin comments they make, not least the snide/derogatory ones on all things Scottish.

Me too. A lovely thought. :o)
//the right to be re-united with refugees already settled in England and Wales. //

would that still apply if Scotland have a neverendum and stay with the EU when they divorce from England?
Actually, I can't see £100,000 going very far at all.
The legislative change being proposed by a Scottish MP will change UK law, Mushroom.

I think I am just as generous as any of AB's many bleeding hearts (and in some cases possibly more so), but I like to choose the causes (and people) I support, not to have them chosen for me.
Where are these refugees from; England ? Northern Ireland ? Norway ? Iceland ?
I am with new judge,Scotland can have them all, lots of unused land to build houses for them up there.

Oh yes KARL and on many posts it is easy to tell who is from Scotland by the usual derogatory thinks they love to say about England.
"Nice to see the Scots doing something positive about the traditional "canny Scot" (i.e. "mean bustard") stereotype."

Having been in the company of a fair few Englishmen in pubs over the years I can safely say that whoever started that slanderous myth was aiming way too far north.
