Thus far all other western leaders have got nowhere, yet the Trumpster has managed significant progress, what has the west been doing wrong up to now? What has changed in NK?

I don't think it's Donald Trump who's brought about this change, I think it's due to the testing facility being badly damaged. Kim Jong-un can no longer threaten and may even need help if the radiation from the facility spreads throughout the region.

Up to now the west has 'pussyfooted' around NK. Donald Trump jumps in with both feet and speaks his mind. I hope the meeting is a great success and North Korea comes out of its isolation to join the modern world.

It’s impossible to say. At least as big a factor might be said to be the aggressive behaviour of N Korea (now as Vulcan points out stymied by the collapse of their test centre. Or the quiet diplomacy of the S Korean leader.
When it comes to the negotiations, the Koreans will have noted the US having walked away from the Iran deal (the US reneging on a previous agreement with Libya was probably what caused them to ramp to their nuclear threat before)
So it would be interesting to see what effect that has. The N Koreans are paranoid isolationists. At least in this they share common ground with the current US president.

Without a doubt The Donald has played a large part in getting this far. I believe there are other factors such as China who I am sure had a big influence (But then he lent on them too)

As for the damaged site that may or may not be true. Either way it is a very convenient way of KJU stopping his Nuclear programme.

Finally, I do agree with ZM. He should be treated with extreme caution and we are not out of the woods at all yet.

i think china had a hand in it, bad for business economy etc, having a loony neighbor rocks the boat, i don't think trump had anything to do with it.

It was Kim who started the crisis with his aggressive missive behaviour. I just hope neither he nor Trump are thought of as possible peace prize contenders.
We could all do that: make a terrible racket/rocket and then get a nice reward when we calm down (!)

I think the person who would really deserve the Nobel Peace Prize , is whoever managed to negotiate a settlement between the Israelis and the Palestinians
