Seems President Macron has managed to put aside his, quite considerable, differences and diplomatically engage President Trump.

Why do we pamper to the likes of small minded Khan and the other Trump haters and allow our country to potentially put at a disadvantage? The Donald is just one man who, at present, is the elected head of millions surely we should be looking ahead 20 - 50 years and working out our relationship with the country not the POTUS?

SP, from your favourite rag:

"The US president, Donald Trump, left Paris smiling on Friday after a 24-hour visit in which he was not troubled by the large demonstrations he had feared if he came to London. "

dont let what I actually write

I know you didn't write it. I did.

Take it from there...

You know very well what you were trying to do.

Bit of an odd question and most of the assumptions are wrong.

1. No chances have been wrecked. The UK and US recently jointly worked together bombing Syria and the special relationship is still yanky doodle dandy.
2. The Mayor of London has no influence on diplomacy, that is the British Government, led by the Prime Minister, and UK/US relations are completely fine and normal.
3. A visit by the POTUS is scheduled for this year.

Who told you The Guardian is my favourite rag?

Whoever it was, was lying to you. My favourite news sources is the New York Daily News, followed by the Independent and then the Huffington Post and Spectator.

Also, that piece from the Guardian doesn’t support your argument.

You criticise Trump protesters here for potentially damaging our relationship with the office of the President, but clearly - he can take it, as he did in France.

Don’t let The Guardian tell you what Trump thinks about any potential UK visit.

How could it really know?
There’s an easy way around this - why not get the royal family involved? A state dinner could be held for Trump at Balmoral. It would be entirely appropriate, because he’s half Scottish.

...and one thing you can guarantee...London ‘lefties’ aren’t going to travel up to Scotland, for any reason.

Job done.

Let us hear from the Independent then shall we?

//But ire of most French marchers is directed at French president Emmanuel Macron and his policies//

Job done!

SP, apologies for accusing you of being a Guardian reader.

I also agree with your suggestion of using the Royal Family. Put them to some good use.

//The Mayor of London has no influence on diplomacy//

Oh yes he does. Anything he says contentious is reported not only Nationally but often World wide just as such words fro a NY Mayor often are, therefore it has an impact.
I think it would be unwise of our PM to try to out-Macron M Macron, who is a typically French leader. He's young, confident and knows (as surely we all do) what tweaks the Donald's fancy and floats his metaphorical boat. I was in favour of his state visit to start with, tho only because it seemed a fait accompli (as Emmanuel would say). Then against, but now I cannot really see a reason for him not to have one as I agree we should do our bit to flatter him.
But I don't buy the idea that he is afraid to come to London, or that the mayor or other various or nefarious leftists have put him off.
You have got to love it. Trump realises that just when the perfidious French are professing friendship and entente cordiale is the very moment they are about to stab you in the back...........We always knew that though didn't we.

The OP does come across as a little desperate

‘Oh please Donald....please don’t leave us...PLEASE!’

If you will.

I’m sure the wheels of industry will still continue to turn and the strategic importance of our island will suffice to warrant a big bro should we ever need one.
Macron has basically rubbished Trump's political philosophy in Congress. So he may have given Donald T the works in Paris but he is making it quite clear where his values lie, and so should we. Never mind the gold coaches that may come with it
