you would need one hell of a giant to fix that gap.
If this really blows, then it could be very serious for millions of people.
anotehr Indonesian attempt to wipe out the human race. They've come very close before

The earth appears to be on the move again, nothing new but like Mickey says it could be very serious for millions of people.

One has to wonder if it is Nature fighting back against over population of the Planet?
Question Author
probably caused by brexit YMB!
It will blow, the only question is when.
Likewise the supervolcano under Yellowstone in the USA will blow again, when it does it will take most of the USA and Canada off the face of the Earth. It may be in 10 minutes it may be in 100,000 years but it WILL blow again.
Question Author
sounds like you are looking forward to it eddie.
Not really sure what your title means. 2017 was anyway not a good year for Carbon emission savings (they went up, owing mainly to Chinese Coal plants). Also, volcanic C02 emissions are dominated by human C02 emissions; Agung, if it erupts, won't change that.
Here are details of the Yellowstone super volcano. To be designated a super volcano it needs to have previously erupted with over 1,000 times the expelled matter, mainly ash, that a normal volcano produces

Note that 3/4 of the way down the link it says '' This will make 75% of the USA and Canada uninhabitable''
I'm at least 100% sure that Yellowstone isn't worth worrying about.
Question Author
the point is jim that we move heaven and earth to try and control our 4% of the Earth's carbon and wallop, volcano wipes that out in an instant. I'm not saying that we should not bother but I think we need to get our efforts in perspective.
Question Author
well most of it's un inhabitable now eddie! especially Canada! Have you seen Ice road truckers?
Except that the "volcano wipes that out in an instant" is wrong.

Typically, volcanoes release somewhere around a third of a billion tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere annually (let's allow that, in a particularly active year, it might be double that). Human Activity accounts for about 100 times that.

You have your figures the wrong way round.
Question Author
seems a lot jim. according to this Human activity accounts for just under 10billion tons:
https://www.co2.earth/global-co2-emissions
so not a factor of 100 more like about 34 times or 17 in a bad year for Volcanoes.
Thanks for that source, TTT. Just to be clear before I say this, I got caught out by that site too. But it's referring to "gigatonnes of Carbon" not "gigatonnes of carbon Dioxide". See the caption befow the table:

"Convert carbon to carbon dioxide (CO2) by multiplying the numbers above by 3.67."
Yellowstone isn't worth worrying about

depends who you are, jim

Question Author
ok fair enough but I'm talking about the amount we reduce emissions not total emissions. how much have we been able to bring down total usage? That will have been wiped out by volcano eruptions surely.
//One has to wonder if it is Nature fighting back against over population of the Planet?//

Possibly, but the preferred theory for "Mother Nature's rage" is man-made climate denial. Here's that theory enunciated by Jennifer ("Harvey loves to hug shaking hands is sooo boring") Lawrence 30 seconds into this video clip:

What didn;t happen there?

Let's try this clip:

A toothsome actress, but suffering from shredded wheat deficiency and an acute form of Trump Derangement Syndrome(ATDS).
