When muslim children are set homework similar to this ...

Write a letter to your parents explaining that you think all this belief in Gods and prophets is nonsense and you are going to be an athiest.

Good luck children ... you're going to need it.

You know that is never going to happen - are you just exercising your renowned robust sense of wit again?
If people have the courtesy to address me by my name and not persistently make deliberate errors they find amusing in their tiny minds for whatever reason, I might take more care with how I address them, meanwhile I couldn't care less.

Is this addressed to anyone in particular?

I'm making a valid point. Why do you think it will never happen?
Question Author
religion is schools in my op should be, some people believe, that their is an entity or invisible being that created the universe, of which we have no proof, and also each religion thinks their invisible god-entity is the best or more powerful, and also as a subtext religion has divided man ever since, with the result that we now have in the world..ask children what do you think, religion has done for mankind.
Talbot - // Why do you think it will never happen? //

Because no teacher is ever going to say, or even suggest, to any child - "You are going to be an atheist ...".

Schools educate children, they don't decide their faith base for them.
If a writing task was needed then perhaps 'Write a short essay from the viewpoint of a person of your age brought up in a different Religion' as you imagine it to be.

After the task then a discussion about varying viewpoints could be had.

That would give scope to all pupils.

I am sure that is the framework in which the homework was issued - and it is knee-jerk ignorance and fear that has made this parent react so inappropriately, and the media, sensing an anti-Muslim story, and delighted to throw a bucket of petrol on his bonfire.
Double 'So' alert.

So it is ok to set homework to say you're going to become religious but not going to happen if it is based on becoming irreligious?

So (no.2) you're copping out on giving a honest answer.
Can't believe the double standards on here
Disagree Andy, I feel the confines of the task as outlined in the article are too limited as it stands and fails to give all an equal chance.
They do have an equal chance- it's just theoretical. When my daughter's school did this, her best friend, who is a Muslim wrote about Christianity instead. It's only to show understanding about different points of view. I'm not aware of anyone actually converting.
Thank you Pixie, it had not become clear to me from reading this that there was a choice within the writing task.

Not something my Grandchildren have done.
You're welcome x schools are very aware, I think.
andy-hughes, //So a Jihadist can be educated up the eyeballs in Islam, but still be ignorant enough to twist it towards perceived support for an inbuilt desire to maim and kill people.//

Jihadists don’t twist it. They know precisely what Islam entails.

//if education in matters Islamic is OK for you, then why not for others?//

I’ve no objection to anyone learning about Islam. In fact I really wish they would because currently the western world is teeming with 'useful idiots'.

//everything to do with your oft-quoted deep knowledge of Islam//

As far as I can see you’re the only one who often quotes it.

Your posts are rather lengthy, so if I’ve missed anything you wanted me to address perhaps you’ll post a brief reminder.
Jihadists may be educated about Islam, but uneducated about humans and civilization. It isn't education that causes mindless violence- it is ignorance.
pixie, //Jihadists may be educated about Islam, but uneducated about humans and civilization. //

That's an education they would never accept because Islam would cease to be.
“The term ‘moderate Islam’ is being lathered up again. The patent of moderate Islam belongs to the West. There is no moderate or immoderate Islam; Islam is one. The aim of using such terms is to weaken Islam,”
Talbot, "The aim of using such terms is to weaken Islam,”

The aim of using such terms is to hoodwink the west.
