But, but Goldie's a dog's name. I saw it on Blue Peter!
Ah- well mamya is rebelling, anyway...

I can understand why the question is being asked, because there are specific health issues that affect gay people, however - I don't think this is the right approach. This is data mining, rather than data collection.

There's a big difference.

I'm pleased to hear the name of your goldfish. We too had one in the 80s, which died several times. Each time Goldie died, my mum replaced it with a replica, so that me and my sister wouldn't have to go through the mourning process.

This is why we grew up thinking that goldfish had a 23 year life span.
Awww :-). They sometimes do! Ours lived to 16 (unless my mum did the same thing...)
What is it exactly that makes a difference with the health of gay people only?
sp - I had a recent stay in hospital and I answered every question as honestly as I could considering my pain levels and the morphine. My OH filled in the gaps.

Goodness knows what they think my life style is like is everything is doubled plus some.
Surely they would have had to have quadrupled it to have been only half-right, ummmm? :op
HaHa...
I now have two and a half goldfish?
Ar, Buth and Not. Sorted:-)
In nursing, we were only told to double it.
What possible reason would they need to know your sexuality to treat a medical problem.?I dont see what difference it makes.
I'd tell them if it was relevant to my treatment in any way. However, the only way to genuinely not discriminate... is not to know.
The link says that from 2019 patients will face questions about their sexual identity. I was asked about mine during my recent admission to the psych hospital and was also asked during my previous stay in 2013. As 3T says, what possible relevance is it to treatment (medical OR psychiatric)?
Pixie is right....."the only way to genuinely not discriminate... is not to know."

Cheers...the report on the BBC website alluded to the same thing.

The Daily Mail article also states (about the consultation document):

"there is ‘strong evidence’ that lesbian, gay and bisexual [LGB] people are ‘disproportionately affected’ by sexually transmitted infections, substance abuse, poor mental health and loneliness in old age.

More data would enable NHS and social care bosses to ‘better understand, respond to and improve LGB patients’ service access, outcomes and experience’ and allow ‘targeted prevention and early intervention’ work to improve their health."
Sorry...had someone on the floor... That's US, jno. The answer for prevention is education- easiest to do in schools, no matter what people state as sexuality.
If asked I shall reply I am a lesbian. To justify this I shall explain that I am a woman trapped in a mans body but I still fancy women.

See what the idiots make of that!
There's an option for Lesbian, so you're fine there.
I know!
Sorted.
