So it emerges that the young man in question has a long criminal record, has had a couple of attempts made on his life and has been described as a 'lovable rogue'!
Why was he running away from the police if he had nothing to hide, sad that it is, I feel that if you live by the sword then you'll die by the sword, the police just can't win in this sort of situation.

Agreed but the good by the book officers

What should that cop have done '' By The Book'' then ?.
"Saintpeter - couldnt put it better myself. You live by the sword you die by the sword. The Police can never win."

If the policeman in question had cuffed him, and tried to get the offending choke material out of his throat and failed then i would be the first to call this policeman a hero but the facts are he choked the guy to death whilst the guy had something lodged in his throat so the police can win if they abide by the book, and the unfortunate fact is that they usually win even when using underhanded tactics due to naive people and people who sway and bend the evidence as they don't want the "upstanding law bringers" to be seen in a negative light.
"What should that cop have done '' By The Book'' then ?."

What ive just posted underneath your post which is really plain common sense.

Q-Why doesn't the policeman just come out with the truth and say he was in a state of high adrenaline, the suspect tried to get rid of the evidence and started to struggle and i restrained him to stop him swallowing the drugs, not realising he would then later die"

A-Because maybe he didn't intend to kill the guy, he is now in shock that he killed someone and he is scared of going to prison, losing his career, losing his pension, his house, car etc.

This^ is the real truth and i don't need an investigation to tell me this. Neither should anyone
Sorry heimrich manouvre is now called ABDOMINAL THRUSTS. I learnt this during my first aid course and this is what i would have done to preserve and save a life as should the policeman in the video. I fully understand high octane and high adrenaline pursuits and apprehension where the mind isn't thinking straight and protocol is out the window, i also stand lying when you've committed a heinous crime and in shock which is what happened.

I didn't realise you were an expert in criminal law and his defence lawyer who was actually there at the time.

Dave.
Suspect apprehended at 1.45a.m. dies in hospital at 3.10a.m.How could he have been 'choked to death' ?It doesn't take so long to die from being choked .
As Sqad said earlier.

\\You need co-operation for the Heimlich procedure and i doubt whether that guy is ready to co-operate. //

Which if you have done a first aid course you would know.

Thirdamigo ..... it seems you know more about this incident than the rest of us, pray tell how do you know what actually happened, we've all seen the same video and my take on it differs from yours by a long way, I see a career criminal trying to be restrained by the police, no doubt they were asking and shouting at him, to calm down so that they could cuff him, he was struggling so back up arrived, then it looks like he fainted or lost consciousness.
What happened before the CCTV picked up the incident no doubt will come to light very soon.
To me, if you get involved in drugs, crime, assaults, weapons etc, then you must take the consequences, its no use crying about it after the event!
"I didn't realise you were an expert in criminal law and his defence lawyer who was actually there at the time."

Well you don't know whether i'm an expert in criminal law as you haven't asked me.

Do defence lawyers defend the dead?

"Suspect apprehended at 1.45a.m. dies in hospital at 3.10a.m.How could he have been 'choked to death' ?"

Okay smart*** choked leading to death, better? Choke=lack of oxygen=brain death

"You need co-operation for the Heimlich procedure"

Erm...No you don't, not for back slaps or abdominal thrusts, please do your own research, and then cross research what you've heard if in doubt rather then listening to people off the internet.

Retired consultant of about 30+ experience years who knows more about first aid and all things medical than you.

\\Do defence lawyers defend the dead? //

No, they represent them.

\\"Suspect apprehended at 1.45a.m. dies in hospital at 3.10a.m.How could he have been 'choked to death' ?" //

Simple, it had nothing to do with what the policeman did, maybe he managed to swallow some of his drugs.

Dave.

If anyone is a smart *** it has to be you
Thirdamigo. Were you born with a wooden spoon in your hand ?
Wooden spoon?

Nah, a bucket of confetti.
"Retired consultant of about 30+ experience years who knows more about first aid and all things medical than you."

Eh? And you know this how?

Are you one of these people that believe anything they hear at anytime?

I could be practicing surgeon with a doctorate degree and have 40+ years experience for all you know.

Believe me, the st johns ambulance first aid is up to date, valid and you only need ONE person to do the abdominal thrust! Look it up, watch the vid, research and cross research EVERYTHING you hear on the net.

No offence to sqad, as after a quick search he appears to be what you said but things are different now to what they was 30 years ago, you don't need to be a rocket scientist, a brain surgeon or a Retired consultant of about 30+ experience years to comprehend this.

See^what i did there :)
Well - if you could calmly perform abdominal thrusts on a strapping guy trying desperately to get away from you then you are indeed fully qualified as erm something.

I'll wait for the investigation.
Wooden spoons, buckets of confetti?

Oh come on, what do you do in real life when someone disagrees with you? You debate calmly and if you don't agree you agree to disagree, not cry in the corner thinking of insults to throw out of our prams, although your insults combined made for a funny image, see i'm not insulted or bitter :)

It isn't poppycock.....you can clearly see the police officer trying to remove something from the man's mouth or throat......not easy when he's fighting back.
The abdominal thrust manoeuvre and back slaps are really easy on someone who isn't struggling like an electric eel.

A criminal, trying to get away and struggling, is probably not easy to do either of these manoeuvres.

It is probably going to be a Darwin Award nomination at the least.

I've had to use this manouvre 3 times, twice on people who were going blue and about to die, arms flailing, punching, chairs, tables falling over, people screaming, children crying around us, absolute mayhem and carnage so those who think this gentleman was too difficult for a burly policeman to deal with are wrong and have never been in this situation bar the girl in the mental hospital.

Someone earlier said "Why mention colour" but it seems that once again it is all about colour.

/// A vigil has been planned for 6pm on Monday outside Stoke Newington police station.

The organisers, Hackney Stand Up to Racism and Fascism, wrote on Facebook that Mr Charles' death had left them "enormously concerned and angered".

They added: "Only weeks after the death of Edson De Costa in Newham after he was arrested by police, this latest incident continues the seemingly endless list of young black men dying at the hands of the authorities." ///
