I'm going away at the weekend to a Major Sporting Event at the Principality Stadium.

I've had reminders about event safety and I emailed the stadium to explain that while they say we cannot bring in drinks or food from outside I need to and they said that wouldn't be an issue as long as I have a letter (which I do) explaining my circumstances.

What about people who don't know they can do this? What happens to them if they have their hypo kit confiscated? They'd have to wait ages while becoming more ill while someone or them themselves has to wait in a queue for ages for a drink or food.

I appreciate why in this day and age we need to be safe and have these checks done and what not, but do they when writing out these security information they take into consideration people like myself or with other needs?

I'm not having a go I just can't work it out. I felt guilty this morning for being what I am, because of the way others act and what they use against us.

Maybe a reply to them explaining they should add a rider to their 'no food and drink policy' along the lines of 'If you have special medical or dietary needs, please bring proof'.

If they take note then you will have helped others in a similar situation.

That is a very good idea Mamya!

I just worry about others that's all. I'd hate to have them have a bad experience and be put off going to events etc.
Exactly, good luck and hope you enjoy your event too.x
Don't you dare feel guilty Queenie!! xx

Mamya has hit the nail on the head (oooh, she's good like that! x)

Also, am wondering about writing to a newspaper or 2, they run adverts for Sporting Events and Concerts and wonder if they may like to bring it to the attention of the advertisers as well?

Probly not tho, cos it's just going to be one advertising bit of a company dealing with another.

Anyhoo, am sure you'll have a great time tho! xx

Thank you Mamya.

I'm sorry Alba... I don't usually feel that way. I just see it as selfish really...because of a minority group of people, I now have to fight that little bit harder to save my own life while having a great time.

I'm ok with it now, just more frustration than anything else.

I'll see what I can do about encouraging places to incorporate something into their measures.

I'm sure I'll have a great time though...always have don't plan on changing it now
I've a mate who is a sports journalist, works mainly in radio, does the odd bit of telly, but I'll email him and see what he can come up with too.

Can't hurt, the more the merrier I say :-) xx
Looking at their website, they are very keen on Disabled access, stewarding and refreshment points and refreshment ordering so I'm sure they could include other conditions too, the only way is to ask.

I do agree it should be made plainer rather than having to dig to find the information.

Thank you Alba :)

Every little helps so they say

At times I feel we should have a pass that says I'm Type 1 having a hypo can I go to the front of the queue...life depends on it type of thing.
I have a bright yellow plastic card announcing my partial sightedness, only used it once when a chap called me stupid as I accidentally brushed his arm in a queue lol.
that reminds me of time Mr Alba's mate was taking his g/f to see his sister.
She started having a hypo and sister was on balcony watching them approach her flat.
She thought the g/f was as drunk as anything and tutted until g/f came round with tea and choccy biccy.
I know the g/f, she was my maid of honour.
I know the sister, she's a nasty piece of work.
Mamya, there are some idiots about aren't there?

Dreadful way to behave.
Question Author
What a horrible thing to say Mamya!

Oh dear Alba :(

I used to have a card when I was younger but it just said who I was and that I was a diabetic and what to do in an emergency if found etc...
if you are prone to hypos then you could go inside, and buy some food before you have one just in case. i dont really understand the problem
Question Author
I'm not prone to them Bednobs - others may be.

But all that is on offer at this event wouldn't be convenient and would be an expensive waste of money and eventually no use.

It's easier to have our own kit as we know what works best for us to treat our lows.
I don't suppose the "no food, no drink" policy has anything to do with maximizing profits, at all?
A friend of mine went to an event at the O2 recently. He was shocked (and he is a young adult) that water cost as much as beer and soft drinks cost more. Hs words were no wonder they have a problem with people staggering around P****d
Question Author
It's a possibility gingejbee!

It's £4 for a bottle of juice that you get in a cup. It's about £3 for water and about the same for a hotdog.
Question Author
Agree there woofgang
Do those glucose tablets help you? I always carry them
