Speaking as a bloke I find the whole thing disgusting , both parents and anyone who performs FGM should be prosecuted.

i understand what you are driving at, but it doesn't make it any more palatable.
I was watching something on the BBC the other night about fgm.
But in this case it was not what's discussed here but rather the stretching of the labia,as it's considered attractive in some African countries. I wonder...is this any different than western women having surgery to have the perfect privates?
Grown women choosing to have cosmetic surgery cannot be compared to FGM on children

not the same thing at all, if you read the link one man was prosecuted for carrying out fgm with a pair of scissors on his very young daughter, its grotesque.
It is totally unacceptable that no one has ever been successfully prosecuted in the UK for this vile and disgusting crime, despite it being an offence since 1985.

But as usual, the same old reason could be why there hasn't been any.

/// Fears of being accused of being racist could also hamper investigations into FGM. In the first national guidance on the issue, the College of Policing said officers should “put aside cultural sensitivities and fears of being branded racist” to investigate the crime effectively. ///
I wonder if this disgusting excuse of a doctor had the same thing done to her as a child.
I very much suspect she has

I'm with you 100% em.
It obviously *IS* MGM OldBather2, but the difference is that the seriousness of the act is lower. The MGM you refer to is the removal of the penis' protective hood rather than the possible destruction of sexual pleasure in adult life.
id would threaten deportation to any migrant who advocates such horrific practices, and make examples of ones who carry out the practice and take there children in to care, with no recourse to the law.
perhaps they will get the idea it's not legal and it's immoral.
fender, taking a child away from her family and putting her in to care is punishing the child. There are far too few foster parents in any case.

Then shall we not jail any criminal parents, just in case it is punishing the children as well?
We are not talking about other parents and other crimes - this is specific to FGM.
allen,
I was not under the influence, and I find that quite insulting.I was just pointing out what the USA finds acceptable.

I would rather the child who is at risk, and of course that's the problem, how do you tell, were not put back with parents who allow this to happen.
The trouble is, the sort of numbers we may be talking about would make it impossible for the Care system to cope.

This gives only a rough idea.

Like everyone here I find it utterly abhorrent and could never in a million years understand the mind set of a Parent who would protect their child from danger in every other way but will allow this.

It has taken a long time to become engrained in their psyche, let's hope it won't take as long to quell it.
