It is predictable that the USA will seek the UKs help in phase 3 of its war against the axis of evil. Our govt will tell us that Iran is developing nuclear weapons and that they will use it against us via the terrorists. How many here will support such a war.

AB editor, for the very reasons you have mentioned (the  economy and its internal affairs) wars have been started as a diversionary tactic. It is unlikely in this case as the election is far away.

Ned, yes i supported the war against the taliban in Afghanistan ( i saw the horrors of the taliban in Afghanistan first hand) and was in favour of removing saddam if that is what my govt told me they were going to do. Not that WMD malarkey.

Vinny I am a hindu....cant see the relevance

Jan Bug...if i had accesss to spell check then you would have less to do...whats with the :-p ?

DT - It's cos I wasn't meaning to be rude, so it was a :-p to show my comments were meant in good spirits! :-)  (like that was)

Loving the fact that AB has piped up on this! YAY! :-)

Ok dom I agree with you on your afghan and saddam points what about Syria and Iran though, do you think that they are not responsible for terrorist acts?

With regards to Syria and Iran the real issue is is it govt sponsored. Just because groups that are sympathetic to the insurgents are based in Syria and Iran does not mean that they have the full support of the elected govts of these places. There have been many many organisations that were based in the Uk that supported and in many cases actively organised crimes elsewhere. There were british suicide bombers in Hamas. So are we to blame, are they sponsored by our elected governments. No. So by the same token, as our sophisticated policing and intelligence systems could not prevent British born suicide bombers carrying out attacks in Israel, we should consider the prospect that Iranian and Syrian govt forces also cannot monitor and foil every act of support for the insurgents in Iraq.

Hi Dom Tuk,

I didn't mean to imply that I thought waging war is being used as a diversionary tactic. I meant that instead of discussing all the factors which brought the USA to where it is today and building a comprehensive approach to tackle these problems, the government under the Bush administration will just forge ahead with their "plans", using the most patronising and pre-school rhetoric ever heard by a President, to justify them.

I appreciate what you are saying Dom and I agree that we can't stop terrorists being based in certain countries even our own (as per the israel incidents) but IMHO, I believe that the Syrian government were responsible for the killing of ex-lebanese leader hariri and probably many more state sponsored terrorist activities.

this article is just one of many that complicates are very complex lebanese political scenario. Furthermore as a direct upshot of all this isnt Syria taking its forces out??

I don't know how to feel about AB editor voicing an opinion...

For some reason I can't stop thinking of The Terminator.

The Answerbank funding bill is passed.  The system goes on-line August 4th, 2000.  Human decisions are removed from strategic defense. Answerbank begins to learn, at a geometric rate. It becomes self-aware at 11:19 a.m. BST, October 19...

It's all pretty scary.

Pre-emptive strikes on Iran is the way forward. The West do have a moral right to rule the world because we are free thinking and democratic. Any country that is under the head of some evil religion deserves to be policed by the West.

And besides the threat of nuclear capability, the fact oil rules the worlds fiscal policy, I see no problems with that.

AB Editor 'Its contagious oneeyedvic'-Its?, It's...
Yes, i'd support the war for one reason. Who do you trust more, our govt who have intelligence about Iran and spies there and detailed information OR the press which is where WE get all our info from? If you trust the press more i want to know why because their objective is to shift copies not whats in the best interest of their reader or other peoples lives. On a side note (and i hate to bring this up) i was talking to a friend about the brazilian guy who was shot on the tube. With all due respect to him and his family i believe th police did the right thing there. My reasoning is simple, if a guy runs through baggage inspections and is told to stop but keeps running onto a train despite being chased by police with guns you'd suspect something was up. My friend raised the point why couldnt they just get him in the leg and stop him, well a bad leg doesnt sto pa suicide bomber from pressing a button and killing hundreds does it? I apologize if my comments upset or offend, they def dont intend to do that, they are just my opinions and would love to hear others thoughts about both topics.

Did anyone see this - I find it troubling. It is becoming very 'murky' over there. Islamic militants after another war? Iranian government after justification for increasing isolationism? UK/US government after provocation? I would say the first but that is a bit of a shot in the dark.
Greeno I suggest you read further on the tube shooting - as it turned out he many of the initial reports were, erm, slanted towards justifying what was in actual fact a catalogue of errors.

Some crackers today, WM!

I thought the following were particular well observed satire: "The West do have a moral right to rule the world because we are free thinking and democratic." Class!

"Any country that is under the head of some evil religion deserves to be policed by the West." Arf! Good one!"

Keep it up; you brighten my days.

All fish bite, I'm sure Ward is a wind up merchant, i would hope so anyway..and he's reeling a lot of you in.

greeno well put dear sir. Totally agree with you, and don't be bothered about upsetting folk. This is an adult debate and if we all had the same ideology it would be dull.

waldo the frog prince. I am glad I amuse you. I hope you are serious as I do have an ego.

surfer Mike Love. I am not a wind up merchant. I am a liberal with a few right ideas, both political and in the "correct" sense.

One thing I do not know the answer to is what is Iraq's view on Iran now?

I know in 1991 they still hated eachother over the old  war but then that calmed down.

All the talk of Jihad probably linked the evil fanatics worldwide. But what is the general opinion now? Would Iraq help the good West to bomb Iran?

Well mr minter if you're a liberal with comments like ''the west have the moral right to rule the world'' then god knows what you'll be saying if you're a right wing conservative.

God only Knows Mr. Love.

Alas I said "police the world" Slightly different but thinking about it we would benefit from a reintroduction of Empire States.

my apologies Mr Love, I did say "rule" and I meant it!!
