A letter to David Cameron signed by the Islamic Society of Britain and the Association of Muslim Lawyers reads: ‘It is neither Islamic, nor is it a state.

The group has no standing with faithful Muslims, nor among the international community of nations.’

Some kind of let out clause then.

andy-hughes, it's true though.
Samjenko - //It's all there in black and white, Andy. //

I know it is - I put it there.

// I'm quite happy to stand by everything I said. //

Good for you.

// And repeat, it is you that doesn't understand. //

Repeating something that is wrong doesn't make it right.
AOG - //A letter to David Cameron signed by the Islamic Society of Britain and the Association of Muslim Lawyers reads: ‘It is neither Islamic, nor is it a state.

If during the war - since that is your discussion comfort zone - a German friend of yours had disavowed the Nazis, would you have interpreted that as 'some kind of let out clause'?

Why can't you grasp that being a Muslim does not make you an ISUS supporter, any more than being an American makes you a member for the KKK!
Cept it does here. I know you're too stubborn to admit when you're wrong. So I'll leave it there. (don't you dare trying to get the last word in)
Naomi - // andy-hughes, it's true though. //

Absolutely - but is it appropriate.

A vividly recall hearing a psychologist on Radio Four a few days after 911 discussing the endlessly looped images of the planes hitting the towers.

He made the very valid point, that people don't need graphic visual images to convey the effect of a tragedy to them, and not only that, but showing graphic images, and especially repeating them, is actually bad for people's mental health.

/// What would you have the BBC say? 'So called barbaric terrorist instigators state'? ///

No because they have never been called the 'barbaric terrorist instigators state,' so the 'so called' usage would have been incorrect.
andy-hughes, your psychologist has rather proven my point that images do have a greater impact. Thank you.
AOG, please tell us then exactly how you would like the BBC to refer to them?

Is it not better to knowingly pronounce their Islamic links so that they know we blame their religion?

So according to one we should not take the risk of upsetting anyone's mental health by showing photographic proof of various incidents we should only depend on 'word of mouth' evidence.

Lol, Lol.
She'll turn it to her advantage of course (referring to OP). Something on the lines of 'Condemned for showing the truth of their danger to the French people.' Strengthens her hand i.m.o..

The reason that I can see why Macron isn't being charged with something, is that he's been useless at doing anything. He was full of wind and promises when in govt. and fell short on everything. Bit of a 'Teflon Tony'. He'd be a disaster for France, Fillon wouldn't be bad (for France) - both are anti-British and pro-EU in its full intent.

Ok, I won't .... DOH!

That is exactly what I am asking for, it is the BBC's attempt on distancing themselves by adding the "so called" statement.

Much as to say "others call them the "Islamic State" whereas we couldn't possibly address them as such".
AOG - // So according to one we should not take the risk of upsetting anyone's mental health by showing photographic proof of various incidents we should only depend on 'word of mouth' evidence. //

The 'So' Rule strikes again!

AOG - in your fervent attempts to avoid directly communication with me, you are starting to talk like the Queen!

For the record, 'One' (chortle!) did not say anything of the kind - I was quoting a psychiatrist who knows about these thing.

I advised that he said that graphic images were not necessary, and repeating graphic images were damaging.

He didn't say - so I didn't repeat it, that we should not use images, or that we should rely on word of mouth - as usual, in your fervent desire to denigrate anything I say, you have made up the last bit.
AOG - //That is exactly what I am asking for, it is the BBC's attempt on distancing themselves by adding the "so called" statement.

Based on my past response to your blatant fictionalising of what I said - and your wilful misinterpretation of what the BBC is saying - I am minded to ask (but not expecting a response!) - do you do this for effect, or are you really that confused, or are you just being difficult?
AOG, you're completely missing the use of 'so called'. It refers to them calling themselves a state. By saying 'so called' the BBC denounce this and give them a lesser status.

Calling them an Islamic State would be to acknowledge their desire to be such.

I can't quite believe i'm having to explain this but....there you go.

/// Plus, what do you think is actually gained by putting out graphic images of terrorism? ///

/// As far as I am concerned, telling me that a man was beheaded is more than enough - I have an imagination, I can visualise what that looks like, I don't need the image to improve my perception of it. ///

If that is aimed at me, you are going to have to bite the bullet and say so - and while you are there, perhaps explain what your two C & p's mean? Thanks.

You know that for certain do you?

I will still stick to my opposing view, but feel free to stick to yours, since we both can't prove otherwise.
