7-14 YO = children. Not sure why you put the word in inverted commas.

Regardless of what age they are reported to be, it has been proven over the last week or two, one can't always take it to be gospel.
so if you don’t believe your own link, why post it?
If you don't believe that they're children, maybe the whole thing was made up. Where do you draw the line with your belief in journalism?
ha ha ZM, great minds!
"According to his statement, the 11-year-old girl managed to get away from the boys and found a life guard. The lifeguard immediately alerted the police."

Why on earth does one need to go looking for a lifeguard ? Are they not permanently at the pool looking out for problems ? Or is harassment and sexual assault out of the water someone else's problem ?
Focussing on aog’s use of inverted commas detracts from what is a serious issue.
Thank goodness these children were apprehended and are now banned from the pool.

Makes a change for me to not to take all one reads as the truth.

There are many on here who do it all the time, especially if what is reported on, doesn't fit their agenda.
OG - the life guard might not have realised what was going on.
Some folk being surrounded and harassed and one didn't interpret the situation properly ? If true it sounds like someone needs some urgent training in basic youth care and in reading situations. It's how bullies get away with stuff otherwise.
Old_Geezer, perhaps the lifeguards thought it was just a bunch of kids messing about. It would be an easy assumption to make.

Unfortunately only for a year Mam, just think what they might get up to when they have been given their freedom back and are a year older?
Are you saying the 7 year old was really an adult?
Is that why you are comparing this to the Calais boys/men?

Not sure thepoint of your question.
Naomi, I just wanted an explanation of why the OP clearly questioned the use of the word children, when they clearly were (according to the article) just that. I found the use of them distracting for, as you say, a serious issue. I think AOG is using the refugee story from a few days ago as a link to this, quite separate story and I found that quite ridiculous. Along with his choice to believe certain aspects of the story and not others. Bizarre.
You're all probably right. From experience from school many years ago it tended to be you could not rely on teachers not assuming 'messing about' as some poor kid got hassled; often on a regular basis. That said it rarely got done right in front of a teacher guarding the pupils.
The article may have been posted as a timely reminder that a sexual emergency can (ahem) arise at any age.

Anyhoo, they'll only be doing what they've learned at their father's knee. It's kulchur, innit.

Not saying that, only a sarcastic like remark when we have been lied to in the past.

We were told that a 38-year-old 'child' migrant from Calais Jungle was an adult interpreter

/// Not sure thepoint of your question. ///

I cannot be held responsible for that, if you don't understand feel free to step down.
Do you think sarcasm is appropriate for such a serious subject?
Yes, maybe it should have been a lifetime ban - I don't know the workings of such laws and rules in other countries.
