//A schoolgirl who left the UK to join Islamic State in Syria is feared to have been killed in an airstrike in the country.

Kadiza Sultana was one of three teenage girls who fled east London and entered Syria via Turkey last year.

Her family say they were hoping to get her across the border and into Turkey before she died, after she became disillusioned with life in Syria.//

Will this deter others with similarly idealistic notions?

Nice to see you continue to keep a sense of proportion, AOG.

I am feeling it a little difficult to rejoice in the death of a silly teenaged girl. I *do* hope, however, that it gives others considering doing the same, in the hope of discovering a pure Muslim-utopia, pause for thought.
tambourine - //Had she returned to UKshe would be liable for life in prison for treason. //

Trial for treason is highly unlikely in this day and age, and a case against someone like this would never make it to court, it would be far too hard to prove to the point of conviction.
Talbot - //'an eye for an eye' is not an outlook for a civilised society - that is how IS think.

So ISIS are just reacting/retaliating are they? //

I see you are confirming to my oft-posted notion that, in order to say something the poster has not said, it is necessary to preface the response with the word 'So ...'.

In answer to your point - no ISIS are not reacting / retaliating, they are the instigators of Jihad, I have never thought, much less posted anything to the contrary on any thread - including this one.

Andy, your excuse of no recourse for niavety has opened the floodgate for followers.
bazwiirun - //yet more endless drivel from AH ...to use AOG's phrase just more of the usual word tennis from him //

If you have a counter-point to offer, by all means do so, simply dismissing my view with ridicule does not move the debate forward.
tamborine - //Andy, your excuse of no recourse for niavety has opened the floodgate for followers. //

I am not offering 'an excuse' - and flattering though the notion is, I don't believe that my view on here will be taken as carte blanche by any other prospective ISIS followers to go right on ahead with my blessing

Good we can forget all the eye for an eye drivel then ...

My reference to the biblical thinking was referencing those who think that the death of this young woman is appropriate revenge for ISIS atrocities, which clearly it is not.

Apologies for the confusion.

ISIS probably do think that way - but like all their thought processes, that does not offer validity.
Such a shame to see those rejoicing at the death of a young woman.

At 16 she was little more than a child who had no idea what she was letting herself in for.

It is a shame, and that shame is compounded by the ridicule heaped on anyone who puts that view forward. A most unedifying situation all round.

Whilst I won't be rejoicing her death, I won't be losing any sleep over it either. And I can't believe for one minute she didn't know what she was letting herself in for.

Can't you?

As a father of three daughters and one granddaughter who have all been sixteen, I can confirm that their potential naivety, innocence, and capacity to romanticise every scrap of reality out of a given situation is depthless!

And they were sophisticated Western teenagers - I imagine that scenario only increases for Muslim teenagers exposed to the experienced groomers of ISIS.

No
I wish you two, Talbot and Andy, would sort out your C&P, it's hard to read.

I always cut and paste the post to which I am responding.

This is so that, if another post drops in while I am replying, there is no confusion as to which post I am addressing - this cuts out the need to say "That was for ...". Similarly, if a thread goes over a page, it stops the need to scroll back and forth to read the original post to make sense of the reply.

I know some people disagree with this method of keeping track, but so be it.

Obviously I cannot comment on any confusion caused by other posters' methods of response.

No //

Then we can agree to differ.

I would not presume to try and tell you that my knowledge on this issue is greater than yours - I have no way of knowing if it is nor not, so I leave that sort of stance to others.

But if everyone used your method of copying and pasting everything in the post it would get really annoying.
I mean imagine ummmm was now going to reply to this post and copied it in its entirety then posted adding her little bit ... and then I responded by copyi....

But everyone doesn't, so the question of potential annoyance does not arise.
