My dad was a train driver (1949 - 1990) and a few of the drivers that he knew had experienced hitting cars or hitting people. Some of them were unable to work again after the incident.

If kids want to take silly risks then there is not a lot that can be done. But ruining the live of another person is not acceptable.
near misses of many types are a depressing reality for the railway operator. in the past week there have been instances of level crossing barriers being knocked off by vehicles ignoring the lights, of a pedestrian who tried to beat the barriers and got hit on the head in the process, of a person who sat waiting for their train with legs dangling off the platform (life changing injury was the result). for many the railway is an inconvenience to be circumvented at any cost - and all too often that cost is paid.

it's a pity that Network Rail is too squeamish to show the filmed evidence of what can actually happen - and there's plenty of that in existence.
