Togo - //I wonder if a French "news" channel would have used a presenter wearing a hijab, or if the mischief makers on ch4 considered sending her to France to present on the spot commentary? If not, why not? //

Not sure that such hypothesising is really relavent here?

Why would Channel 4 (Mischief makers? Really?) would consider or not sending the presenter to France is something only they know about - so how can anyone comment?

mikey himself knows it to be true.

When he has started threads about historical child abuse involving MP's I have agreed with him that a independent panel should investigate.
Yet when I have asked him about such matters as the Rotherham grooming gangs he has no voice, he tells me and other to start a thread about it if they want to ... he rarely if never gets involved in those threads
Talbot - //mikey himself knows it to be true. //

Another sweeping groundless statement.

You will have to wait until mikey returns to the thread - which may be soon, and for him to agree with you - I think you may wait rather longer for that!
That's because some people won't admit the truth.

Racist slur , well not really ... unless I use some semantic gymnastics to defend my nonsense, which I will do because I hate to say I was actually wrong.
The sting in the tail !

From the Guardian :::

"By the early evening on Monday, the Sun published a second article, which was not in the print edition that appeared that morning, in which one of its feature writers -Anila Baig– also a Muslim – wrote that the “fact that Fatima can present a news bulletin and also wears a headscarf shows how great Britain is”.

Anila Baig wrote that Manji was a “professional ... not someone dragged in off the street just because she’s wearing a scarf on her head”.

“Presenting a live news broadcast is not easy and not something an ‘enslaved Muslim woman’ terrorised by men would be able to do.”

The Sun tweeted a link to the story on Monday but later deleted it. A spokesperson for the paper declined to comment"

So it appears that MacKenzie was rowing back on his remarks, but later changed his mind, and withdrew !

///Fatima Manji appears from time to time, just as other presenters and newsreaders do. Who knows the religion, if any, of Cathy Newman, Gary Gibbon, Siobhan Kennedy, Jon Snow, or anybody else ?///

And there's the rub.
Some of our virtue signallers have chosen to make analogies with Catholic/Protestant presenters reporting on the troubles in NI. Imagine after a UVF atrocity, turn on your telly, there's a chap resplendent in a bowler hat, possibly an orange sash too. (tad insensitive, imo, if not deliberately provocative)
Same thing with 'your' black presenter analogy. Would it be acceptable for a black man to report on the recent 'cop killings' whilst wearing a BLM badge?

/// It should not be an issue - that is the entire issue being debated. ///

No that is your answer to the op's question, but thank goodness, others have a different opinion.

Once again you seem to back to your old ways, you have started a squabble simply by being offended on behalf of another, not only that but you are once again trying to get threads closed down.

I take it you have enjoyed a nice holiday, so you should now be refreshed, so stop trying to increase your blood pressure.

Your comparisons don't fly.

The Orange Order is a masonic society, and its uniform is neither required or desired dress for Protestant adherrents.

Similarly BLM is a socio-political organisation, and wearing of its badges is not a requirement of being black.

Since wearing of political uniforms or badges is not permitted for national news presenters, your comparison is rendered meaningless.
AOG - //Once again you seem to back to your old ways, you have started a squabble simply by being offended on behalf of another, not only that but you are once again trying to get threads closed down. //

I have not started a 'squabble', I have defended an AB'er from what I perceive to be an unwarranted personal attack. I have done this several times in the past - and I have defended you in a similar fashion on more than one occasion - I notice you did not object at those times.

I never have and never would attempt to close a thread down - which, you will recall is within my remit should I judge it to be appropriate. I am simply debating, along with others, and speaking as I find.

// I take it you have enjoyed a nice holiday, so you should now be refreshed, so stop trying to increase your blood pressure //

I did enjoy my holiday thank you, and your concern for my health is appreciated, but unnecessary. I had my blood pressure measured yesterday as it happens - normal, as usual.

/// Similarly BLM is a socio-political organisation, and wearing of its badges is not a requirement of being black. ///

And nether is the wearing of a Hijab a requirement of being a Muslim.
It's my view that more people would be better suited to listen to the news on radio.
AOG - //andy-hughes

Indeed not - but again the two do not compare.

Wearing the badge of a socio-political organisation advises sympathy and support for that organisation.

Wearing a hijab is a cultural dress option for Muslim women who wear it or not, as they wish.

There cannot be any perceived connection between one and the other - with the exception that the wearing of both is the wearer's choice.

/// I never have and never would attempt to close a thread down ///

Please forgive me if I have it wrong, but didn't you state that you had reported a fellow ABer to the Editor?

/// I had my blood pressure measured yesterday as it happens - normal, as

That is good news, but if I were you I would have it checked again today.

Great idea Mamya but that would not be quite good enough because, as Naomi said, "I know what her religion is. I’d guess it from her name."

So, as long as Fatima Manji changed her name, and only worked on radio, and didn't speak with a funny accent (phew - she doesn't), she may be allowed to have a job presenting radio news.

/// There cannot be any perceived connection between one and the other - with the exception that the wearing of both is the wearer's choice. ///

There are many items that can be deemed the wearers choice, but some are just not appropriate for certain occasions with this being one.

Oh! we are now back to the original question, how did we manage that?
AOG - //andy-hughes

/// I never have and never would attempt to close a thread down ///

I did report the relevant AB'er to the Editor.

Do you interpret that as trying to get a thread closed down? I don't.

If I wanted the thread closed down, I would have done it myself!

We are indeed!

My position remains unchanged - I fail to understand why wearing a hijab in order to present a news broadcast in which one item among others refers to a possible attack by Muslim extremists - and I await a reasonable explanation from anyone anywhere.

Unless they are following Mr McKenzie's lead and shutting up in the light of an absence of support and an avalanche of complaints!
Ellipsis - //Great idea Mamya but that would not be quite good enough because, as Naomi said, "I know what her religion is. I’d guess it from her name." //

I missed that!

I msut remember to advise my colleague Mr Khan that I can guess he is a Muslim because of his name - except that he is White British, and Catholic!!
