// Support for the European Union in Germany has surged to a record high after Brexit, according to a new poll that also noted a rise of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s popularity since June when Britons voted to leave.

More than half of Germans, surveyed in the poll that was commissioned by the state broadcaster ARD, said that their country is benefiting from the EU. Fifty-two percent said the membership has advantages, marking a rise from 39 percent last month. Merkel’s approval rating has risen by nine points with 59 percent of Germans saying she’s doing a good job.//

With elections less than a year away, it looks like we have inadvertantly secured a win for Merkel.

There's more to it than just Brexit, I think. She has also said that immigrants who do not learn German and integrate will not be allowed to remain in the country, amongst other reassuring things. Her ratings had climbed on that alone.
I think she's been a pretty good leader, myself; though I don't know how appealing any of her potential opponents might be.
Let's hope she's grateful, especially as we're taking our time with exiting.
Poll's can mean what you want them to. It depends on what strata of society you ask, and how the questions are posed.
"More than half of Germans, surveyed in the poll that was commissioned by the state broadcaster ARD, said that their country is benefiting from the EU."

And for every beneficiary there must be a loser (because the EU does not actually produce or generate anything, apart from aggravation for its members. All it does is redistributes the cash it appropriates from its net contributors). One very good reason to leave.

Quite honestly I couldn't give a tuppeny fig for who runs Germany.
Of course Germany`s support for the EU has soared following Brexit. There is now almost nothing to challenge Germany`s total domination of the organisation. France and other nations must, however, be feeling rather thoughtful, recalling perhaps events of 1939-45.It just goes to show that there are more ways to dominate other nations besides the use of armed might. Just ask the Greeks about this, for a start.
