I have no issue with it. Other countries don't seem to. I think once tried one will find that the fears beforehand were no great obstacle.

Fair enough JTH though I'd hazard a guess he's in the minority. And for the record, as I've stated in the past the best Sgt Major I served under in HM Forces was female.

Men in the military tend to be damned better at ironing than many women - not that it's relevant, I assume it was throw away humour to mention ironing.

Mr J2 does the ironing in this house - Merchant Navy for several years when young, followed by National Service. I am better at sewing buttons on and cooking.

Women have served in 14 intelligence company, much tougher than a normal army role.

Although I would hate to see what would happen if a female member of the armed services was caught by Isis.

Much more seriously, I suppose you can say that women can be front line infantry officers if they meet the physical tests. Very, very few will. It's not just periods though, is it? There is psychology at work and very basic mental programming.

She has probably already been mentioned, but one extremely fit, American
lady tried for about 18 months, I gather, before giving up and saying something on the lines of 'We just can't do it girls'. In trying she has damaged her body permanently.

We are a different shape, we can train as hard as we like to push as much weight as men - but we are not the same and should concentrate on what we are good at (generally the stuff the guys are weak on- honest). Then we are really valuable and punch above out weight.

When are the PC Brigade going to realise that men and women are different.

All this 'equality' doesn't work, take for example a trip to a DIY store, all have a mixture of male and female employees, all presumably on equal pay.

But if one has to ask at customer services for help with a very heavy goods purchase, who does the staff member call to help you, yes a male employee.
