Obliged sp1814, hard to believe but there it is.

Tilly, Muslim men are like normal human beings.... to Muslim women.
I suppose this will be more ammunition for Trump in his next speech.
Question Author
trt, possibly. It might even gain him a few more supporters.
Trump would need to expand his brief, as the terrorist wasn't a Muslim who came to the US, so his immigration ban on Muslims would not have stopped this.

A few people have already made this incorrect leap of logic.

sp, we know. It was in Talbot's link.
I would like to correct any false conclusions drawn from this incident. Omar Mateen was NOT acting in accord with true Islam. The Sharia has strict rules for, firstly, determing the guilt and, then, assigning the penalty for a practising homosexuality.

Here is the Shafi'i school of jurisprudence's discussion of the matter (emphasis by VE):

"The legal penalty is OBLIGATORILY imposed upon anyone who fornicates or commits sodomy

(PROVIDED it is legally established)

[AND] when they:

(a) have reached puberty;
(b) are sane;
(c) and commit the act voluntarily...

... IF the offender is someone with the capacity to remain chaste, THEN he or she is stoned to
death... (def: 0]2.6), someone with the capacity to

If the offender is not someone with the capacity to remain chaste, then the penalty consists of being scourged one hundred stripes."

Mr. Mateen had no evidence that any of the people he killed were practising homosexuals, or that the other conditions for a capital sentence were met.

That being the case, I don't see how Trump could benefit from this.

But to give him his due - at least he isn't using this massacre to imply that gay people have brought this on themselves. I have a nasty feeling that we're going to hear quite a lot of that over the coming days, especially from the Bible Belt.
This is what the possible future POTUS has been tweeting about muslims with regard to this recent shooting

It would be the 2nd attack on a gay nightclub within a few days, so it is a salient fact.

You don't? Think about it.
v.e.
When do extremists abide by the strict code of their so called sharia law. I don't suppose ISIL bothered to go via a sharia court to demonstrate Newtons Law when throwing young men off high buildings.
Why wouldn't a home grown US/muslim terrorist nutter not assume that if it was a well known gay club then all the attendees inside were .....err....gay?
That was proof enough for him in his warped muslim ideology!
He made a 911 call just before the shooting pledging his allegiance to ISIS and referenced the Boston massacre.

From what I've read Christina Gimmie's murder wasn't connected with gay people. Random psycho attack...no-one else was targeted at the club.

This attack was specifically a hate crime against gay people. I don't think any other conclusion makes sense at this time.

like this, SP?

Trump will need to be careful. There is a section of his supporters who align themselves more with the attitude of Gov. Dan Patrick.
mushroom25

Yep...I referenced that a bit earlier.

The whole 'reap what they sow' stuff is going to come bubbling up from some quarters.

It would not have happened after Paris. It would not have happened after Brussels. It will happen after Orlando, because there are people who genuinely hate gay people. This piece of filth who carried out the murders is one.

But there are others.
Sp - there was another one earlier - I wasn't referring to the poor singer. It seems as if gay people are being made a target.
"When do extremists abide by the strict code of their so called sharia law. I don't suppose ISIL bothered to go via a sharia court to demonstrate Newtons Law when throwing young men off high buildings.".

If ISIL don't determine guilt by due process (possibly the Hanbali version of the Sharia) they're breaking their own rules, Retrocop. I was trying to make clear to SP and his fellow gays that Islam has juridical procedures for enforcing God's Law, and that while the increase in the Muslim population will bring with it more vigilantes like Mateen, if ever in some dystopian future he has to stand before a Sharia court he can expect fair treatment.

Sorry to hear of your health issues. My best wishes.
