Does anyone else agree that the Four Candles / Fork 'andles sketch is possibly one of the greatest comedy moments ever.

really very sad to hear the news.  He was a true comedy genius. He never failed to make me laugh in everythigng he appeared in, and I loved that he and little Ronnie got together for their best bits series on the Beeb this year.

Sincerest best wishes to his wife and family.

he was a true legend, im not ashamed to admit i cried when i heard the news this morning. Very sad news
And it's goodnight from him
'Fork andles' was a great sketch but i also loved the phone booth sketch... great charactor actor...up there with sellers..a genuine all time great.

The man was a legend and took a brave decision to quit showbusiness for the sake of his health. His legacy will live on

On a different point having read the Sun's editorial i find it to be hypocritical as shortly after he left showbusiness and started his antique shop, the Sun accused him of trying to rip customers off. At the time it was a big thing and though i can't remember the actual outcome but the newspaper went after him.

He deserved better

I was so upset I lit four candles for him.

I totally agree - an absolute legend.  And yes - 4 candles/fork 'andles - definitely one of the all time funniest moments on TV.  Makes some of the recent stuff look lame, even though the recent stuff is actually very good!

His shop is/was near where I live.  We used to go ocassionally but I found it so hard to go in.  I'd panic that he'd be in, and that I'd want to ask him about fork 'andles!  I know it was Ronnie Corbett that was the shopkeeper in the sketch, but just the thought of it makes me smile even now.

I look forward to the tribute evens so that we can celebrate such a great man's life.

The posthumous knighthood had better be more than speculation too.

A true legend and will be sadly missed. Luckily there are hours and hours of his videos. Many people forget that he also wrote many sketches for the Two Ronnies under an assumed name which many of his colleagues did not discover until many years later. Probably the best British comic actor/writer ever.
