If your house was burning down to the ground, would it really matter what the sex or the skin colour was of those sent to put the flames out?

If you believe sex and colour do not matter, why do you you raise them as issues when you think women or non-whites are treated more favourably than men and white folk?
AOG..........Why do you think that the Fire Service is "96% white and 95% male" ?

could you enlighten us? (one of the figures is inaccurate, btw).

Could it be that this country has a greater percentage of white people than dark skinned ones, plus the fact that perhaps among those only 4% of non whites decided to take up fire fighting as a career?

And although we can take it that females represent 50% of the population, once again only a very small percentage of women may wish to join or are even physically able to reach the required standard to enable them to qualify.

Ah....now I understand ....its because not enough non-white and/or females WANT to become firefighters ?
Mush...copied and pasted directly from AOG's DM link.

The Home Secretary said the firefighter workforce is "96% white and 95% male".
ANOTHEOLDGIT, it would not bother me but would it bother you if they were 95% black or 95% Muslim?
Good question Corby !
While we are on statistics, it's interesting to note that of AOG's last 16 questions, 50% are concerned with race and/or immigration.
ANOTHEOLDGIT, HMF have 10% females, do they have lower standards than the fire brigade?
the home secretary is in error - see
https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/fire-and-rescue-authorities-operational-statistics-bulletin-for-england-2014-to-2015
and look at the excel spreadsheet representing Appendices 1 to 13. the figure might have been accurate in 2008. whilst the number of ethnic firefighters hasn't changed much in 8 years, the toal workforce has bee "right-sized" by nearly 10,000.
Mush....I am having difficulty with the excel spreadsheet....could you some-up the info contained in the files please ?
It's because it's the new right-on thing to do AOG.

I'm rather curious on the 95% Muslim suggestion. As Islam is a religion not a race and believers are of all skin colours and genders (well only straight ones I suppose) how would you know what religion your fireperson was?
If statistics revealed that 95% of firefighters were Muslim, I suspect that may be of concern to some.
Particularly those who are gay and being rescued from a tall building.
The service will soon be renamed the 'PC Brigade' and the fire chief on site will be marked by a black helmet!

We will be getting to the point that there has to be at least four black jurors where the accused in a criminal case is also black!

Where are people looking for problems worrying about diversity?

What matters is a speedy response and safe service conducted by efficient firefighters of whatever ilk.

I'm waiting for the Ms May complains that there are not enough white bus drivers.
day^^
Maybe the BME community just don't have a burning ambition?
