Confirmation, if any were needed, that Terry was indeed Showbiz Royalty?

There has been some criticism of the decision to hold his memorial service at Westminster Abbey. What do you think?

Honours for being in show business is always highly questionable. But I'm not fussed if he has it there or not. He'll still be looking down from his cloud.
It could easily be seen as overblown nonsense and setting a precedent for any future witty dead folk to have the same.

Not fussed either way, I won't be paying any attention to it.
Why not?
Not a reply to you Balders, just a general observation.
as long as they don't intern him in Poet's Corner......
^I was just going to post the same, danny.
Best TOG's will no doubt be on show...

dannyk13, I think some people consider Westminster Abbey rather too grand for a mere mortal - even one as highly esteemed as Tel.
Are we not all born equal in the eyes of God, and is not Westminster Abbey a house of the Lord?

Therefore his house should not be set aside just for a certain privileged few, but open to all.
Naomi, He is a knight of the realm after all.
Based on AOG's post I shall look forward to my service being there when the time comes.

After all, we are all mere mortals.
Once the great and the good would be elugised there, now they're including entertainers.
O tempora O mores!
I think you mean 'inter' rather than 'intern', DTC.
The Irish can be particularly sensitive on the difference.
Interesting that a memorial service takes place in the Abbey for a man who, having been brought up as a Roman Catholic and educated by the Jesuits, became an atheist
Poets' corner houses Dr Johnson, Laurence Olivier and Robert Adam, none of them strictly a poet; so there are no grounds for complaining that Tel wouldn't belong there. However, this is just a service, not a burial, so I can't think of any reason why not.
sorry, Freudian slip there, Douglas....is Clement or Lucian interred there, as well?
The decision was probably taken for practical reasons; if you want a large capacity then you are looking at the Abbey or St. Paul's.
Should have been Westminster Cathedral
