/// Mr Cameron should consider that of all the countries in the Europe, Britain has the longest established tradition of offering sanctuary to refugees from war and oppression. ///

Yes but these have been fellow Europeans, and why have we been able to that? It is the fact that we have in the past fought and died to defend our lands, so as to keep our country free from invasion.

Why should we give up all this now?

Ah yes, I wondered how long it would be before that very worn out old chestnut Kindertransport was wheeled out once again.

This is an entirely different kettle of fish, those children were escaping the Holocaust from Germany, Austria, Czechoslovakia, Poland, etc.

These children are already in what now are a safe group of countries in Europe, but due to the open border agreement now find themselves in France, so it is not our problem.

Well, AOG....every child in danger, in poverty or at risk is my problem......so I agree with Ellipsis......x

Are there not enough children in danger, poverty or at risk in the UK already that we should be helping first without adding to the problems by importing more?

/// For once, I agree with the DM !

Phew ! ///

Only because they now fit your particular agenda.

/// Britain, along with every other European nation, should be providing humanitarian aid to these children. ///

Should we also take in the rest of the world's most deprived children? At least those in France are in a much better position that some others in this world of ours.

Why not most of the children of Africa, yes those we see on our TV screens most evenings, or what about the street children of India, South America, or the Far East for example?

Yes it is estimated that there are over 100 million street children in the world.

Should we also set about welcoming some of these mikey?
I help there too, Baldric....to the best of my ability......a child's a child who will become an adult..... and we will never solve the problems adults dish out to us if we treat children badly.......x
we shouldn't help any children because we cannot help them all then?

How can you sleep at nights with all those problems on your shoulders?

See my post to mikey.

You beat me to it this time. Why should children be any less at risk or poverty stricken in the UK than in France.? If these children can be shown the path, halfway across the world ,to safety why can't they be shown a asylum application form as soon as they reach it ? If they are in a camp (Jungle) in Calais then it is apparent they haven't applied to France.
AOG...when any newspaper writes something I agree with, of course I will support it...........I am on record as praising the DM for its wonderful work after the racist murder of Stephen Lawrence.

Anyway, I thought you might be pleased that I agree with your favourite paper !
I could understand this enthusiasm to save these children if they were living in a war torn country and their lives were in danger, but they're not. They're in France.

A mere Geographical fact becomes irrelevant to those who take the first opportunity to display their agendas.!
AOG.......I sleep very, very well, thanks.....I haven't made much difference in my sixty odd years......but I know I have made some difference.....

I know I've kept a few kids out of prison......I know I've helped some find work.....I know that the well I bought in India is still working and giving a few children water.......I know that the clothes I make help people here and abroad.

A drop in the ocean of course.....but it's folk like you who make that ocean so very large........so if I am ever kept awake at night....it's your doing.....xx
^.... but she's far too modest to talk about it.
Oh poppycock, Naomi.....of course I'm not.......

And very noble of you I am sure, but why did you choose India, aren't they well off enough to follow a space programme?

Incidentally would you care to tell us how much that well cost you?

/// so if I am ever kept awake at night....it's your doing ///

Sorry about that, you really must try and get me out of your head.
We live in hope, gness.
I wonder what caused the usually illiberal DM to write such an article. Could it be that they're actually there and seeing the problems for themselves ...
I suppose the DM feel it's time to charge up their Virtue signals for a bit.
Some people seem to have a very low opinion of France.
Don't spend too much time hoping, Naomi.........'twill be wasted..... :-)

Why India?....It was part of a project I was involved in at the time......children were drinking contaminated water......I'd received a sum of money that could change that....so I did.......
I am pretty sure the children neither knew about nor had contributed to the space programme...
MrG spent much of his time in India.....I am well aware of the corruption but leaving kids without water won't change that.
How much it cost I can't recall, but if you really want to know ask again when I return to England and I can rootle in the filing cabinet......

AOG.......my head if full of odd things......overflowing in fact......but I'm afraid you are just not odd enough, funny enough nor kind enough to take up residence.......but you could try........;-)
