I have not been to a cinema since 1979. I was thinking of giving it another try. But I'm afraid they've blown it now:

NJ...If you go to the pictures, you will have to put up with the constant slurping and masticating, as people seem to view a trip to the cinema as an ideal time to have dinner.

Erin something, Baths.
Mikey, I'm surprised you can hear all that over the volume of the movie. Deafening!
Oops, sorry. I missed a page. :-)

Hey! steady on old son.
I'm amazed they haven't got some ant phone device in the cinemas anyway.
*** In 2003, a cinema in Ireland was told it broke the law by installing a signal blocker that prevented people using their devices ***
Why the hell do people need to be in constant contact with others constantly throughout the day? What is so important that cant wait until they get home? It's pathetic.
The last film saw at a cinema was the first part of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and I agree....far, far too loud !

Thanks all. A bit of levity to brighten the day.

Yes Mikey, it was the eating and drinking that initially put me off the cinema (apart from the fact that there were few if any films I wanted to see). This latest "development" from the cinema boss puts the tin lid on it.

He notes that it is no use telling a 22 year old to turn his mobile off. Well he should think again. Because bad manners become the norm there is no need to legislate for them!

As an aside, I'm strongly of the belief that the use of mobile phones has now developed into a serious mental illness.
ABC Minors, that brings back memories, Robinson Crusoe, White Horses, Chico the rainmaker.

I forgot to add that the Ritz in Wallsend is indeed a Wetherspoon's:

At least they kept the name!
I normally go on a Wednesday first show about midday as its only £5 and usually pretty empty.
What did you see in 1979?
I think the last “grown-up” film I saw at the cinema (didn’t want to say “adult” film) was The Dead Zone, although I did take my children when they were young.

I have had an email from my daughter this morning asking me to go and see the new Jungle Book film with her, having seen a preview whilst on holiday a couple of weeks ago.
Wouldn’t mind seeing it, but not keen on the idea of sitting in a room full of texters, munchers, and masticators!

Agree with naomi about the theatre. Hate it when people use their phone a restaurant too. I think it’s rude.

"Murder by Decree" starring Christpher Plummer and James Mason:

Don't go to the cinema much, but won't go at all if this becomes the norm !!
thank you.

The people have spoken. Hopefully not in the cinema, though.
Last film I saw in a cinema was Julia Roberts in something about a runaway bride, it was in Times Square in NY with my daughter in her gap year, probably 2000. Before that, I can't remember - at least another 10 years, I think. As a teenager used to go twice a week.

OH and late wife used to go every week about 25 years ago.

Mercie for the info about salad boxes, by the way!

I might be able to reconsider, then, jim.

The intriguing part of this is why on earth the boss of the cinema chain could even consider for one moment that the majority of his customers would be happy with his ridiculous idea.
