it is just a hair cut!

The utter garbage one finds claimed by some. It's like their brain doesn't work properly. Who cares if a hairstyle was first seen in one port of the globe. It's just a hairstyle for crying out loud. But maybe any excuse to moan.
The best argument this young man could have used is, "Well, if my dreads are cultural appropriation, then when black girls straighten their hair - surely that's the same?"

I wish he'd had the wherewithal to say that - just to see how she could have argued against that.

In answer to the question...not cultural appropriation...just your average 'Trustifarian' going through the normal cycle of 20-something rebellion, before cutting it off when he goes to work at a realtors' office.
It just looks like messy hair, to me. But anyway, why shouldn't he wear dreadlocks?
My (white) friend had her hair in cornrows for a while, and no one said she was trying to appropriate a culture, and rightly so. They're just hairdos.
just the usual chip on the shoulder stuff weve come to expect and are oh so used to now...
Well, she showed herself up good and proper - my daughter had dreads in her late teens, never a problem.
He didn't need to put up an argument, sp but I was thinking along the same lines. I wonder if she gets upset at the many black girls who try to straighten their hair?

How did she get into university?
Not my preferred hairstyle, but it shouldn't be seen as cultural appropriation. Unfortunately, some people are just like that.

By getting qualifications?

And then going through the front door.

The double doors near the car park.

Do you want directions?
savages!
Just pointing out, Sp, that she's obviously as thick as two short planks. Is that why you put a question mark after 'qualifications'?
She was probably jealous. I know a white guy who can grow the most fantastic dreadlocks - far better, thicker and longer than most of the dreads I have seen on black guys.
this lass had better not go to Glastonbury.
From elsewhere;
'I object to non-white persons who inappropriately
appropriate anything from MY culture, which includes electricity,
batteries, electric motors, generators, transformers, lights,
telephones, radio, television, lasers, lidar, radar, sonar, vacuum
tubes, transistors, integrated circuits, computers, Internet, planes,
trains, automobiles, tractors, tires, steam engines, steam turbines,
internal combustion engines, gas turbines, rockets, satellites,
telescopes, microscopes, eyeglasses, thermometers, steel, cement,
rubber, plastics, antibiotics, insulin, antiseptic surgery, X-rays,
particle accelerators, nuclear reactors, calculus, sliced bread, buttons,
zippers, flush toilets, toilet paper, microphones, loudspeakers,
amplifiers, pianos, guitars, brass and woodwind instruments, tuned
percussion instruments…I could go on, but I think I’ve made my point.'
;o)
This "cultural appropriation" argument is wrong and completely bogus, but it's only made by the tiny minority of people. We shouldn't inflate its significance too high.

As a second point, I should have thought it was well-established that going to university because you have the qualifications in your chosen subject or discipline doesn't mean you have to be super-intelligent in everything you say or do.
Dreadlocks were worn by Ancient Greeks, Hindus, Ancient Christian Asthetics, Buddhists, Jews as well as Africans and Rastas. Aztecs,
Samson of The Bible fame also had dreadlocks.

Wear em if you want to.

What an incredibly stupid woman !
Svejk

Plenty of idiots have gone to university. Plenty of idiots haven't.

Attending university in itself is not necessarily a sign of great intellect.

Some of the smartest people I know didn't go into further education.
