Mikey - it's actually been a very good debate and having reached 100 or so posts it's largely been good-natured and no removed answers!
Be interesting to see how it goes if Sadiq Khan becomes Mayor of London and Trump becomes president of the USA and then comes over on a State visit .
Trump welcomed to London by a Muslim , bring it on!.

Eddie, now don't go forgetting that 'special relationship'!
AG - //Mikey - it's actually been a very good debate and having reached 100 or so posts it's largely been good-natured and no removed answers! //

Indeed it has, and is.

It's amazing how, when the snipers are ignored and not engaged, how debate flows smoothly, and stays on track.
Perhaps it is all to do with culture, this makes an interesting read:

/// Pakistan is one of the most corrupt nations on earth, coming 139th on Transparency International’s list of the world’s most corrupt countries (the higher the number, the more corrupt, by the way). An Al Jazeera report into Pakistan this year began with the words: ‘Paying bribes is part of everyday life for many Pakistanis, with even passport applications affected.’ ///

Thank you, but I am still rather puzzled with what you later stated.

/// I don't agree that being a muslim makes him unfit to be mayor or an MP for that matter. I am against all muslim selection only in any election process. ///

First you stated that in your opinion being a Muslim doesn't make him unfit to be a MP or even a Mayor, but later state that you are against all Muslim selection in any election process.

It may be my age it may be the way type translates differently to what a person is really saying, whichever I am still confused sorry.
divebuddy - ////It's amazing how, when the snipers are ignored and not engaged, how debate flows smoothly, and stays on track.//

Exactly the sort of post that should be ignored. //

But you didn't did you!!!

Sorry, I am just having a little jibe at previous antagonisms, don't let's get into a fight over it. It was not meant personally.

Gentlemen, please don't let me have to produce the first yellow card! ;)
/// It was not meant personally. ///

Snipers, Motley Crew, Antagonists, no nothing personal, just as Dave says "we are all in this together" lol.
Question Author
AOG - what I'm meaning is that I do not support Muslims being elected where the selection is based on Muslim candidates only. As far as I am aware Mr Khan has not been elected on this basis as an MP and wouldn't be as mayor.

Hope this is clear? ;)
AG - //Gentlemen, please don't let me have to produce the first yellow card! ;) //

Absolutely!

Sometimes I over-estimate the sense of humour of some AB'er's, and simultaneously under-estimate their readiness to take offence!

No more from me off-thread - promise x.

And to think Michael Atherton got it in the neck for ball-tampering!

Sheesh!
Question Author
Andy - good, thank you. Got my eye on you, well sort of.

/// I didn't think it would very for this thread to descend into the usual anti-Muslim rant.......and I was 100% right ///

Since the thread is regarding the possibility of a Muslim becoming the Mayor of our Capital City, is it not expected that it should turn into a "In Agreement" or "Not In Agreement" type of debate.

Anyone that voices their opinion that is not to your liking, it seems to be classed as a 'rant' to you.

But then you are not against the occasional rant yourself, but to you that is perfectly acceptable since it doesn't involve Muslims, only those you disagree with.
Can't be any worse than the last two can he ? Well can he ?

The big mistake is for cities to go give power to an individual in the first place. They push through all sorts of impositions and immoral changes with apparent impunity, and the next one doesn't take it all out again.
agchristie

Perfectly, thank you very much.
Question Author
OG > They push through all sorts of impositions and immoral changes with apparent impunity,

It will be expected that Mr Khan will have to grapple with some very difficult issues affecting Muslims. I wonder how he will deal with Islamic issues.
Question Author
AOG - no problem, sorry that I wasn't clear originally.
Religion in politics shouldn’t be an issue, but in this case it has to be.
